Grimdark Compendium

Hey people! Submissions for Black Chalice Round 3 are now closed. What comes next?

We will be going through all your lovely entries that you emailed, organising them to be ready for judging. Please be patient, as there is a large number of entries, so it may take some time (we go through them by hand). As we do that, you should receive an email confirmation that your entry was received.

After all are collected, we will make a post showing all of the entries in a collage, as we usually do.

Good luck to you all, and for those who have already qualified for the main category of Round 4, prepare the best entries you can! It's gonna be a hard competition!

Thank you all for entering; we will see you later!

Grimdark Compendium

A Mordheim Skaven warband made into a vision of a black plague procession, a horror of rat-men walking the streets, flesh falling off. Something a peasant would imagine in his worst nightmares.

Don't be afraid to explore your own ideas when tackling factions; you don't need to necessarily stick to the "normal" aesthetic of Warhammer or anything else. Make it something that speaks to you instead.

Today is the last day to send in your entries! Don't forget!

There isn't a specific closing time, so you don't have to worry about time zones and such. Usually, if you send it the day after, it's still all good. But don't take too long.

Below, you can check the rules and info:

- Every entry must be painted in the Grimdark Style.
- Submit high-resolution photos with either a black or white background.
- Entries must not have been used in any previous competition.

!! Submit your entries to community@grimdarkcompendium.com by 30.9.2026 !!

Our medal system remains the same—there's no limit to how many entries can earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal. You're not fighting over a handful of podium spots; if your work meets the standard, it deserves recognition.

Every medal also comes with a prize from us. On top of that, the best entry in each category will receive special awards, including prizes from our sponsors, @bestiarum.games, @grave.forge, and @warlordgames, plus the complete Villainy Ink range—including the new oil paints that are coming!

As always, every medal winner qualifies for the Black Chalice Competition 2026 Grand Finale in round 4, where they'll compete for the physical Black Chalice Trophy and a $5,000 cash prize! And that is coming very soon!

We look forward to seeing your creations! Good luck!

Kind of a unique take on the Undead Mordheim warband, making the dregs, servants of the vampire, a band of corpse snatchers. It works well with a low-fantasy setting that is Mordheim, bringing also something horrific into the mix that DID indeed happen.

More of our Mordheim content in a City of the Damned bundle on our website, a lo-fi, documentary-styled series that to this day is probably the most comprehensive Mordheim guide, both in a hobby and gaming sense. You also get a Complete Collection of Villain Inks with it for a limited time, so check it out!

Enamel washes: super simple to use. Perfect if you are either looking for a good base to continue working on your mini or if you just want to get a decent-looking mini done fast.

Paint your basecoats. Apply any enamel wash of your choosing (Goon's Grime or Decrepit Filth are the two Villainy Inks intended for unifying washes). Remove with mineral spirits, which reactivate the enamel.

Boom, now you have shading, weathering, and unifying filtering done, all with one wash and removal. Don't sleep on enamel washes!
