13 years ago, I stood right here when McKinsey rejected me. It was brutal. As a college junior, I flew to SF for final round interviews.

I prepped for weeks. And not even 2 hours after I left their office, they called to reject me. At the airport. Ouch.

I was bummed because I thought this was my dream job. Or, at least that’s what my classmates at Wharton told me.

A few weeks later, I got a call from a recruiter at Google.

I did interviews and got an internship. But I heard they wanted me to work in some remote office in San Bruno.

“What the heck is in San Bruno?” I thought.

Turns out it was home to a little company called YouTube.

The recruiters saw the YouTube videos I made while class president and placed me there.

That changed my life. I took the job, spent 5 years there, went to IG, and now I’m a full-time creator.

But you know what’s funny? And sad?

Had I got offers from both McKinsey and YouTube back then in 2012, I would’ve probably chosen...McKinsey.

Not because I wanted it more. I mean, I spent my free time in college making videos not decks.

But because I listened too much to those around me. I let prestige cloud my passion.

So thank you, McKinsey for rejecting me so quickly.

And thank you, YouTube for accepting me and giving me a career beyond my wildest dreams.

It's crazy tomorrow is already the 20th anniversary of the 1st ever YouTube upload. Here's to many more.

The best way to use YouTube's new A/B thumbnail tool?

Use Ryan Trahan's 4-step process:

1. Test 3 images with big changes
2. Let YT select winner
3. Test 3 more images with small changes
4. Repeat small changes until results are same

Even ‪@MrBeast‬ said in our interview he uses same approach
