Coming Thursday: the secret to saving LOTS of money on fabric by using...your retro gaming skills? I know it sounds crazy! But this method saves me anywhere between $10-$60 PER MAKE, which adds up fast!
We could all use to spend a little less on new things right now, so hopefully this video will help you find a way to reduce your yardage while still getting the garments you want!
Video goes live Thursday, Oct 23 at 1 pm Central. See you there!
Coming SATURDAY: Let's make an 1890's tea gown to level up our loungewear! I'm so excited to share this make with you all! It felt cursed from start to finish but the finished results are FABULOUS!
Video goes live Saturday 10/11 at 1 pm Central! Hope to see you there!
Hi all! Video this week is coming a few days late, thanks to travels, complexity, and breaking the glass over my phone camera lens yesterday 🙄
BUT it is coming, and it will be all about making an 1890's tea gown, whooooooo! My goal is to get it out by Saturday afternoon, at our regular time of 1 pm Central, but it WILL depend on when I get my phone fixed, since I need it to take thumbnail photos! I will post here in the community tab when I know for sure, so keep an eye peeled!
In the meantime, to tide you over, here are some photos I took on my trip to Seattle last weekend for the Costumers of Color Georgian Global Salon! Enjoy!
New project announcement!! This fall, we're going to be delving into the Natural Form era! So exciting! Specifically inspired by this 1881 black-and-white ensemble from the Met's collection of fashion plates. Have you ever costumed this era before?
It reminds me of Eliza Doolittle's outfit from the races scene in My Fair Lady, so I've decided to dub this the "Age-Appropriate Eliza Doolittle" dress, since this is what she'd wear to the races if she was age-appropriate to Henry Higgins 🤣🙄
This whole project is based on the hat I was gifted (fourth photo) which has the most delightful Ranier cherries on it. It was a struggle to find the perfect era-appropriate fabric to match, so black and white seemed like the perfect solution! Fourth photo is this wonderful striped linen I found for a good price, which means it'll be comfy enough to wear in Galveston this December for Dickens on the Strand!
What's your favorite instant gratification project? We all need a little quick & easy project from time to time! This Edwardian riding corset fit the bill; it only took me about 3 days to put together! Great to use up scraps in your stash, and so versatile a look!
If you'd like to see how I made this (including a sneaky little hidden busk, as shown in the third photo!) the video is out now!
Coming tomorrow! Are you intimidated by corsetry and want a bite-size project to get your feet wet? OR are you an experienced sewer with a ton of weird scraps looking for an instant gratification project? Try a waspie!
These versatile little corsets are a perfect first corset project!
Video goes live Thursday, 9/25 at 1pm Central! See you there!
Ok, everyone! Help me decide a theme for the reveal for next week's video! We're making a waspie/Edwardian riding corset, sooooo....how should I present it? 🤔
Coming TOMORROW! We're ranking historical corset styles for beginners! This is a tier list that's been frequently requested--and I'm excited to share it with you! We'll break down ALL the structured eras from the 1540s forward and look at which ones are good for your first corset project, and which ones will make you WEEP. Featuring a special guest!!
Where will YOUR favorite era rank on my list? I know where mine is...🤣😬
