Hello & Welcome!

AheadMatthewawsome

I am devastated to hear about the Bondi Beach Shooting which has happened this evening which has killed 12 people, and injured 29 people as of 22:13 tonight.

The Bondi Beach community is filled with wonderful people, and deserves their beach to be a safe place for all who visit from around the world.

Due to the ongoing threat, please do not visit the beach until further notice.

Australia is a proud, multicultural community. Australians, no matter their background and faith deserve to be safe, and to be treated with dignity and respect.

This is a time to look for the helpers, and be the helpers. Not to divide us, and hurt us.

My thoughts and prayers go to the whole Bondi Beach Community, and to all those affected y this.

Hi there everyone.

Earlier this week, just before making a speech to Ku-ring-gai Council about the nighttime economy, I became one of 9,600 Australians each year to have a Supraventricular Tachycardia Episode or (SVT).

SVT is where there’s an error with the electrical systems in the heart that loops commands around, which causes an instant spike in the heart rate with no notice, no reason, and then instantly stops.
For me it was just putting my bag on the floor and then having what felt like a lightning strike through my heart!

I immediately had to sit down with a heart rate of 282bpm, a highly dangerous rate for people of any age or fitness. I immediately felt dizzy, faint, and couldn’t stand up by myself. I immediately got assistance from council staff who then called triple zero. After further examination, it was advised that I should go to hospital via ambulance. Even though that this kind of incident would be considered a priority 1 incident, the wait time was estimated at 2 hours for an ambulance to arrive. If I had waited, I wouldn’t have survived.

After getting my mum to take me to the hospital instead, I was immediately treated by the amazing team at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and some NSW Ambulance paramedics who were on standby at the hospital. I found out if I had arrived at the hospital even just 20-30 minutes later, I was at high risk of going into cardiac arrest.

I am eternally grateful to the staff at Ku-ring-gai Council, Sydney Adventist Hospital, NSW Ambulance, and my family for their help! And thank you to everyone who has been checking up on me over the past few days, the support has been tremendous!

This is also an example of the crisis facing our health system in regards to Ambulance waiting times. There have been people waiting dangerously long times for emergency medical treatment in NSW, and across the entire country. We need more funding to our ambulance services, and to initiatives like urgent care clinics to make sure people can get the treatment they need without their lives put at risk. And I hope to continue to advocate further for that when I’ve recovered.

In the meantime, I’ll be taking a break on continuing to make new videos. I have some old videos that I’ve forgotten to upload on here which should fill in the gap. I’ve also have been working behind the scenes on new long form videos, but because of this, and also other commitments I’ve had and some issues in finding an appropriate space to edit, these haven’t come to fruition.

I appreciate any patience until I get my health, and also my workspace and mind space back in order to creating new videos soon!

Thank you everyone,

Matthew

Earlier today, I had the huge honour and privilege to be one of the youngest people ever to testify in a NSW Parliament Legislative Council Committee Inquiry! I spoke about my own lived experience, and what I’ve heard from people in the community about accessibility of public restrooms. I am featured from the start, mainly to 45:00, but can still be seen throughout the video.

And by the way, this is one of the only posts you’ll see on YouTube today that is not trying to fool you! This actually happened!

50 years later…

That exact house in Pymble now is worth nearly $4 million. The average house in Mt Druitt now costs $900,000. Mt Druitt is one of the only suburbs that someone with a $100,000 income can actually afford to live. That same upper middle class family would no longer be able to afford a house in Pymble, and quite possibly an apartment, and would only be able to afford to pay off a house in Mt Druitt. And no working class family can ever expect to afford a house in Sydney, and would be lucky if they could afford an apartment at all.
