Mind Mask

The dumb thing about slowly adding to a script over time is the focus seems to change with each iteration. If I only write when I feel some part is interesting, sometimes waiting days or weeks at a time for inspiration to strike, in theory the sum of those parts should be interesting too, even with the extended period between them. Instead what results is just a collection of violent tangents from the central thesis, which necessitates an equally violent pruning and coercing at the end, which ends up neutering the details for the sake of flow.

I don't think I can fix this, unless I write very short scripts that last only as long as my inspiration does - and that just means infinite follow ups to topics when I leave all the important details out in retrospect.

Oh well. Script for new video is about 80% complete. Lots of academic sources invoked in this one, even though I intended to try keep it as short and sweet as possible. My fault for not closing off the google doc after the first iteration.

Glad that people are enjoying the new video - and really appreciate the support. It sat idle for ages on the cutting room floor, but I am reasonably happy with how it came out. The next topic I want to dive back into is definitely more in the conspiratorial vein - or something more horror related - maybe its the dark winter months that are revitalizing that desire, but look out for that in the future - hopefully wont make you wait 6 months for the next one this time.

Hello to all - I hope your new year has gotten off to a decent start. I've been busy at work, but that hasn't stopped me from rewriting the script I finished in December three times and then recording and rerecording it, and realizing I still wasn't actually happy with it. So, like all of us who enjoy indulging in side projects, I'm going to leave this one 70% finished and move on, hoping that by leaving it to stagnate it will somehow fix itself into a state I'm happy with, or that my brain comes up with a better way of framing the content while I'm focused on some other topic.

That being said, I still want to tackle a thought experiment, something not too cliche. I'll do some digging, but feel free to suggest something in the comments too. I thank you for your patience.

Yes I am still alive and still working on the script, though work has been very much restricting both of these processes.

As a side note, I always intend for things to be short and sweet yet the script always balloons in size as I write it, as I realize things don't make sense without adequate context, and often I'm explaining concepts to myself just as much if not more than to the intended audience, so we end up with things being more detailed or more repetitive than they need to be.

I worry that if I were to be too harsh with my editing that I would end up incoherent or leaving out important items that link tangents back to the original concept, so I'm going to keep erring on the side of redundancy for now, even if that does end up adding an extra minute or two.

Currently working on the next video - the chosen topic being the thought experiment of Laplace's Demon, its implications and opposition. There's also several anime characters with the name Laplace, apparently - and the concept also lends its name to a Japanese horror game from the 80s with Lovecraftian overtones. I don't think even the eponymous demonic intellect could have predicted that...

What kind of video should I do next? Been on a tangent recently, so it's time we got back to business.

Really anticipating the release of the full first chapter of this game - it really nails that liminal feeling unlike anything else I've played. There's something about areas that are designed to hold masses of people that becomes uniquely eerie when empty or abandoned; malls, swimming baths, amusement parks, all seem indelibly marked by the throngs of individual souls that pass through them.

The game's name is Anemoiapolis, which seems to be a combination of Anemioa, which is a word invented to mean "nostalgia for a place you've never known", and polis, meaning city in Latin. Neat.

Latest video has been released - struggled to think of a catchy title, but settled on the following:

The Anonymous Suicides of Ordinary Germans During the Fall of The Third Reich

Hope you enjoy it.

New video almost done - just discovered issues with the audio. Cleaning it up the best I can... audio is a whole different bag to editing, getting it consistent and sounding normal is far more work than I imagined it would be.

Looks like I can make social posts now! Neat. I'll be using these to keep you all up to date on the state of upcoming videos, and perhaps take votes on what to talk about next.

For now, I am in the midst of editing a video about this fascinating book and some discussion around its topic. Thank you all for your support so far.
