📊 Silver Price Comparison – 2025 vs Hunt Brothers’ 1980 Peak (in Indian Terms)
In 1980, during the Hunt Brothers’ silver squeeze, silver prices touched around $50 per ounce in the international market.
If we adjust that 1980 peak for inflation up to 2025, the equivalent price would be roughly $190–$200 per ounce in today’s money.
Now, in October 2025, silver is trading around $51 per ounce globally.
💱 Conversion to Indian Rupees
At a current exchange rate of ₹83 per USD:
$51 × ₹83 = ₹4,233 per ounce
1 ounce = 31.1035 grams
₹4,233 ÷ 31.1035 = ₹136 per gram
₹136 × 1000 = ₹1,36,000 per kg
So, the international equivalent price of silver is ₹1.36 lakh per kg.
🇮🇳 Indian Market Reality (MCX)
On the MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange), silver is currently trading around ₹1.60 lakh per kg.
This higher price (compared to ₹1.36 lakh/kg international rate) is due to:
Import duties on silver (~15%)
GST (3%) on domestic sales
Logistics, refining, and currency premium
Hence, ₹1.36 lakh + ~18% taxes/premium ≈ ₹1.60 lakh/kg, which aligns with current MCX prices.
🕰️ Historical Comparison – Hunt Brothers’ Inflation-Adjusted Peak
If we adjust the 1980 silver peak for Indian inflation over 45 years, the equivalent 2025 price would be around ₹5.7 lakh per kg.
That means:
Today’s MCX price (₹1.60 lakh/kg) is still about 72% below the inflation-adjusted Hunt Brothers peak value.
✅ Summary

🧭 Final Note
If silver were to reach the same real (inflation-adjusted) value as in 1980,
it would need to rise from ₹1.60 lakh/kg to around ₹5.7 lakh/kg —
a potential 3.5× increase from current levels.
