Exactly 60 years ago, the composer Edgard Varèse passed away in New York City. 🌃Although only around three hours of his music has survived, he is now widely regarded as one of the most visionary composers of the early 20th century, primarily due to his refusal to »submit to familiar sounds«. 🔊

His piece »Amériques«, which premiered in 1926 and which we performed under the direction of Alain Altinoglu about two years ago, features a siren, among other things. 🚨

Today we celebrate the 110th anniversary of the premiere of Richard Strauss's »Alpensinfonie«. An epoch-making work in which the composer reflects an entire human life in the form of a tone poem about an Alpine hike. 🏔️🥾🎶
