The Feast Day of Our Lady of Loreto is December 10. Tradition holds that the Holy House of Loreto is where the Blessed Virgin Mary was born, where the Annunciation of the Lord occurred, and where the Holy Family lived.

During the Tre Ore sermon which he preached on Good Friday some years ago, Fulton J. Sheen asked his audience: "If Jesus Christ thirsted for souls, must not a Christian also thirst? If He came to cast fire on the earth, must not a Christian be enkindled?

On December 8, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception—a radiant reminder that God’s plan of salvation began with a profound gift of grace.

📜The dogma says: from the first moment of her existence, Mary was preserved from all stain of original sin, not by her own merit but by the saving love of Christ, anticipated and applied in a singular, extraordinary way.

This truth, long cherished in the heart of the faithful, was solemnly defined as dogma by Blessed Pius IX in 1854 through the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. In declaring what the Church had always believed, the pope affirmed Mary as the new Eve, the pure dwelling prepared for the Word made flesh.

Her immaculate beginning reveals not only the depth of God’s love but also His desire to draw each of us into holiness.

As we honor Mary today, we remember that her story is also a promise: grace is stronger than sin, and God’s light can break into even the darkest places. May the Immaculate Mother intercede for us, guiding our hearts back to her Son and helping us say “yes” with the same trust and purity she lived.

🙏O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

In teaching that Mary was conceived immaculate, the Catholic Church teaches that from the very moment of her conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from all stain of original sin. This simply means that from the beginning, she was in a state of grace, sharing in God's own life, and that she was free from the sinful inclinations which have beset human nature after the fall.

St. Ambrose was a small man with pale yellow hair like a nimbus. In the violence and confusion of his time, he stood out courageously resisting evil, strengthening the Church, and administering it with extraordinary ability.

St. Nicholas' feast day is Dec. 6. One of the most famous stories of his generosity says that he threw bags of gold through an open window in the house of a poor man to serve as dowry for the man’s daughters. The gold is said to have landed in the family’s shoes, which were drying near the fire. This is why children leave their shoes out by the door, or hang their stockings by the fireplace in the hopes of receiving a gift on the eve of his feast.
