St. Lucy was a consecrated virgin who rejected marriage, and was persecuted for her Christian faith. Her eyes were torn out and she was stabbed to death. She is patron of the blind and those with eye problems, and often is pictured holding her eyes.

In 1531, the Blessed Mother appeared four times to St. Juan Diego asking for a church to be built in her honor. The last time she appeared to him, on December 12, 1531. We therefore celebrate the Feast day of Our Lady under the title of Guadalupe on December 12. It is preceded on December 9 by the Feast of St. Juan Diego, who was canonized in 2002 by Pope St. John Paul II.

On December 8, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception—a radiant reminder that God’s plan of salvation began with a profound gift of grace.
📜The dogma says: from the first moment of her existence, Mary was preserved from all stain of original sin, not by her own merit but by the saving love of Christ, anticipated and applied in a singular, extraordinary way.
This truth, long cherished in the heart of the faithful, was solemnly defined as dogma by Blessed Pius IX in 1854 through the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. In declaring what the Church had always believed, the pope affirmed Mary as the new Eve, the pure dwelling prepared for the Word made flesh.
Her immaculate beginning reveals not only the depth of God’s love but also His desire to draw each of us into holiness.
As we honor Mary today, we remember that her story is also a promise: grace is stronger than sin, and God’s light can break into even the darkest places. May the Immaculate Mother intercede for us, guiding our hearts back to her Son and helping us say “yes” with the same trust and purity she lived.
🙏O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

In teaching that Mary was conceived immaculate, the Catholic Church teaches that from the very moment of her conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from all stain of original sin. This simply means that from the beginning, she was in a state of grace, sharing in God's own life, and that she was free from the sinful inclinations which have beset human nature after the fall.
