Honest conversations about sanity & morality, the problem of conscience and badness, versus derangement and "illness." Maybe theses categories are more hazy than we think & deserve more attention.

After carefully reviewing trial footage for Day 5, I hate to say it, but I'm concerned. At first, I thought I just disagreed with Prosecutor Bloodworth's theory of the case, but now, after really watching him in action, I really don't think he has control of this case, and I don't think he has the combo of knowledge, talent, experience and mojo to guarantee a conviction. I do think a conviction is possible, but I don't think it's guaranteed at this point. Today was very frustrating for me, but... I still hold out some hope things will turn around, but - for now - I'm very disappointed with the way Bloodworth is handling this case.

RICHINS UPDATE (Day 5): Fiery CARMEN LAUBER cross-exam -- An insider's perspective (video uploading now): addressing the realities of over-relying on felon testimony, and the importance of NOT overplaying cards and trying to prove more than what's necessary.
For now, I'm concerned the Prosecution lacks confidence in its very strong circumstantial evidence and is perhaps trying to hang its hat on more than what it can really prove beyong a reasonable doubt.
To me, who knew the pills had fentanyl is not the treetrunk of this case, and the state may overplay its cards here. To me, it's enough that Kouri clearly wanted opioids, and that she wanted more and stronger pills at or about the time Eric had a severe reaction to a sandwich Kouri bought for him a few weeks before he died.
So the Prosecution has a very strong case, without trying to prove what was in the minds of two felons beyond the fact that Crozier knew he was obtaining narcotics (opioids), and the fact that both Lauber and Crozier were responding to Kouri's request for "stronger" / "Michael Jackson stuff" after recently having delivered a previous package of opioids for her. Given the circumstances of Kouri's marriage and her proven conversations w her boyfriend/lover, to me this case is overwhelming without trying to prove whether Crozier or Lauber knew or talked about "fentanyl" specifically.
I think it's a mistake for the Prosecution to set up too much jury expectation as to what Crozier or Lauber specifically knew or said regarding "fentanyl" per se, but we'll see how the State plays this going forward.

While I've been trying to remain optimistic, I am starting to entertain other possibilities, and I can't ignore that the perpetrator caught on the security camera did not really seem insane to me. Goofy, clownish maybe, but not insane... And if that's true, then he wouldn't commit the crime for free.. So I'm trying to draw a new offender profile on the basis of a sane offender, who got paid for this... and where the breadcrumbs would lead under that hypothesis.

BREAKING TODAY: The FBI is reportedly now in contact w Mexican authorities to help locate Nancy south of the border. The real question is, should this be a new development, or - in all honesty - should we have been looking at Mexico from the very beginning of this case?

UPDATE: Sorry, but I do think this case has stalled. No one knows exactly how this crime was planned & committed, but I do think it's been an error to spend so much time overlooking the possible international dimension of this crime. Even if cartels or international interests aren't directly involved, and even if the perpetrators were U.S. caucasions, it would be illogical not to take advantage of a border only 1 hour away, and - in my opinion - the most logical possiblity is that Nancy was taken across the border before daybreak on the morning she was abducted. I think the combination of mediocrity and political constraint from both KAsh Patel and Chris Nanos has been affecting this case since the beginning. I do hope we get good news soon, but I really do believe we've gone far too long without serious consideration for the very likely possibility of an international dimension to this case.

Frustration and Disappointment on Day 15. Is this case stalling, and could this possibly be the result of poor leadership? Incompetence... or politics?

GUTHRIE UPDATE: As we are all learning now, this looks like it was a major conspiracy (apparently one conspirator unalived themself tonight), and so my first question is... was this just for money? I'm starting to wonder again if maybe there was some kind of political motive to target a high profile media celebnty... Hoping we'll get some real information in the upcoming hours... Very scary. This is was not a normal crime at all. I can't believe the conspirators were just sitting in a house just miles away from where Nancy lived... so strange.

I'm rethinking my impressions of the doorcam images of the perpetrator, and I'm starting to get Luigi Mangione / Tyler Robinson vibes here. Really rethinking the eyebrows & overall offender profile...

New idea: Looking over the images of the offender at the door..... his costume reminds me a LOT of Luigi Mangione. Mangione had an eleborate ideological / political motive. If this is a Mangione - style crime, what could the motive have been? Maybe a way to attack Savannah for some perceived political hypocrisy? Whatever the truth is behind this attack, it would be nice to get some answers soon...
