বিরসা মুন্ডা ----- যাঁর হাতে ছিল বাঁশি, শোষণ আর বঞ্চনার বিষে সেই হাতেই একদিন উঠে এল তীর-ধনুক। মুন্ডাদের কাছে তিনি শুধু নেতা নন, তিনি হলেন 'ধরতি আবা' ।
ব্রিটিশের ঔপনিবেশিক জাল ও স্থানীয় শোষকদের দাদন প্রথা যখন হাজার বছরের “খুঁটকাটি” অধিকার কেড়ে নিচ্ছিল, বিরসা ডাক দিলেন ‘উলগুলান’-এর। সেই বিদ্রোহ ছিল শুধু মাটির জন্য নয়, আত্মমর্যাদা আর অরণ্য জীবনের পবিত্রতা রক্ষার জন্য।
তিনি ছিলেন স্বাধীনতার সেই প্রথম ফুল, যা শত শত বছর ধরে পরাধীনতার অন্ধকারে ডুবে থাকা আদিবাসীদের হৃদয়ে এক ঝলক নতুন আলোর আশা জাগিয়েছিল। খুব অল্প দিনেই তাঁর জীবন-নাটকের যবনিকাপাত হলেও, তাঁর সংগ্রাম আজও মহাকাব্যের মতো অমর।
বিরসা মুন্ডা তাই নিছক স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামী নন, তিনি আমাদের জাতীয় চেতনার এক চিরন্তন প্রতীক।
