Never take advice from people who hate to tell you “why”.
I was considered “stubborn” as a child.
Nancy don’t touch that cup, I will not only touch it, I will wash it, leave it under the sun to dry, to see what happens.
And yessss, I got spanked a lot.
My tiny butt suffered.
The more they beat me, the more quiet I became around those who beat me.
Once I’m with people who I considered “open or good” I’m talking nonstop..
Whenever I come around those people who will give me rules every time and beat me for what didn’t make sense, I was mute.
As I grew up, I experienced a family. Had to stay with them for a while in my first year in diploma.
And I was encouraged to ask questions.
Mmmmm
Infact it was a crime in this house, to just be quiet.
So when anyone tells me to do or not do something, I will always ask “but why”?
And instead of getting the side eye or silent treatment or being called rude,
I was made to sit down and listen to the explanation.
I had a curfew at home. The day it was placed, I asked “why”?
I got an extensive safety lesson and a fast update on the recent happenings in the community.
My curfew was 7pm but I was always home before 6.
I was never unruly in this house, till the day I moved into my first apartment in school.
What changed?
I was…still am a very curios person.
Your age, status or height isn’t gonna stop me from asking you “why”.
As an adult now, I know better ways to get my answers ….but If I try and don’t succeed, I’m gonna come back and ask you “WHY”.
“Why” is a question that centers you. The answer of course.
Why are you doing this business?
The simple answer might be just to make money.
But that answer will keep you grounded every time you encounter challenges.
It will give you staying power.
So this week, as you take ADVICE from whoever, ask “WHY”.
The “why” will make that answer more meaningful and powerful.
And like me, maybe your child isn’t stubborn, they just have this genius brain that won’t settle for threats.
Stop shouting and trying explaining “WHY”.
September ends this week.
Remember your “why” every time you want to throw in the towel.
🥂
To your success.
