I enjoy exploring the multitude of practical objects that can be made out of clay!

I am a potter and a pottery teacher based in Melbourne, Australia. In my videos my aim is to explain the processes and methods involved in making pots as simply as possible. For a good few years making pottery was my profession. My studio was focused on designing and producing handmade ceramic tableware and objects. My client list included retailers, galleries, restaurants, cafes, cultural organizations and commercial corporations. Since Covid I have taken a step back and since have focused more on teaching in a Community setting. Teaching really helps me understand the struggles and challenges faced by potters at all stages of their journey - and provides a constant source of inspiration.

I'm often asked "What do you do with the things you make on the channel?" ... so often they are things I need around the house.... and these mixing bowls are no exception. They are already on baking duty in the kitchen... very satisfying to have just the right sized bowl.... By the way they ended up being 4.5 litre, 3.5 litre and 2.5 litres in volume. I did adjust the measurements in the pdf for a slightly betting stacking - just widening the large and narrowing the small to take into account any warping when firing - particularly in the spout.

So the reason for making projects available on YouTube is so that people make them!! and so I was really pleased to see Mia from @PotterytothePeople re-making my flip lid with hinges https://youtu.be/gdMolmS8Neo?si=VPlq7.... I love the light green and as always her video is fun and packed with info.... Check her version out here https://youtu.be/_vijke6vBa0?si=bqLnV...

This week's video is a redo of my tiered cake stand.... That central cone was tricky just too difficult so I've broken it down into a much more accessible process... It takes a bit longer but that's ok too 😃 I've created a pdf project sheet with the weights and dimensions to start you off ... ✨

My favourite projects are ones where I can use the finished items in day to day life and it just happened that my allotment berries are ripening just as I finished my latest set of bowls... These bowls work for cereal, fruit, soups and salads.... and - of course - berry picking!! Best of all they stack beautifully.... Check the video out here https://youtu.be/e93SQ4g_XtU

Baking with my handmade Bundt pan... Works a treat, but it's important to remember to oil and flour the pan before adding batter.... Otherwise it could end in 😭 check out the video for more hints https://youtu.be/y78FVlRgYbc

This weeks project fits into the useful category! I make a salt cellar. It was not until I kept a salt cellar next to the stove that I realized quite how handy it is. ... and now I wouldn't be without. This one is simple and minimalist. It's a beautiful project to hone your abilities in making a closed form. And this is really a worthwhile technique - it opens up a world of possibilities. So this week is truly a project for all abilities - If you can make the closed form easily it will be a piece of cake and if your still learning this technique its will help you to mastery. I hope you enjoy 😊

This week's video adds to the series of cake plates. This time with a large lid! It is a larger and more substantial build (and honestly the video was rambling a little unwieldy to edit). However I really enjoyed the result.... so much so I've just finished another one 😀. It's drying super slowly.... If you have made any of the cake plates I would love to hear how you go... You can even post a picture 🖼️ here in the community...
