I've never been a teacher, but for some reason,
I'm often called "sensei" (teacher).

I'll be introducing a variety of dishes,
from nostalgic ones that aren't often made at home nowadays to more recent recipes.

Even on days when I had no appetite, I could always eat this.

「何か作らなきゃ」って思いながら、冷蔵庫の前で止まる日ありませんか。
きゅうり1本としらすがあれば、もう大丈夫です。
"I should make something" — and then you just stand there, staring at the fridge.
All you need is one cucumber and some shirasu. You'll be fine.

焼きなす。
Grilled Eggplant.
フライパンで焼いてみたり、レンジで済ませてみたり。
でも魚焼きグリルで強火にかけて、皮が真っ黒になるまで焼くと、別物になります。
Maybe you've tried a frying pan, or just used the microwave.
But char it black in a fish grill over high heat, and it becomes something else entirely.

とろとろで、煙の香りがして、かつお節と醤油だけでじゅうぶん。
余ったら三杯酢に漬けて冷蔵庫へ。暑い日の、小さな楽しみになります。
Silky soft, smoky, and all it needs is bonito flakes and a little soy sauce.
Any leftovers go into sanbaizu vinegar and into the fridge. A small pleasure waiting for you on a hot day.
