Did you know that 10 inches of snow equals just 1 inch of rain? That means your landscape isn’t getting nearly enough water during the winter months to stay healthy. Winter watering is essential to prevent frost damage and root die-back, especially for evergreens and newly planted trees and shrubs.


Here’s what you need to know:
✔️ Water 2x per month on days when the temperature is above 40°F and the ground isn’t covered in snow.
✔️ Use the “cycle and soak” method: water in short intervals, allowing time for the moisture to soak into the soil.
✔️ Avoid turning on your irrigation system during winter to prevent frozen pipes. Use a hose and portable sprinkler instead.


Evergreens, in particular, are prone to drying out in the winter, so give them a little extra TLC. And don’t forget to disconnect and drain your hoses after each use to prevent freezing damage.
