It’s a beautiful day, and Harold and I are on our way to church with grateful hearts. We truly have so much to be thankful for. I’m always blessed by the time spent with our Sunday School class….such a sweet reminder that we’re not only there to learn, but also to encourage and lift one another up. I pray your day is filled with peace and your week with many blessings. Never forget how deeply you are loved…by Jesus, and by me.

Good morning, friends. Happy Saturday! What are you doing today? I have to make a cake for a dessert auction at church tomorrow. Can anyone guess what kind I am making?

Yesterday I canned a few things. I canned 16 pints of White Beans and 8 pints of Pintos. It won’t be long now and I will be canning all kinds of things from the garden.

What are you doing today?

Good morning, friends! Y’all, it’s May 1st. Can you even believe it? I know I say it every month, but I feel like I blinked and another month passed. Time really is flying.

A new month means a new hymn on my watercolor calendar that Amy bought for me. Each month when I share these, I get so many comments asking about it. She bought it at Christmas Village this past November. I am sharing a picture of the artist’s information. I have enjoyed it so much, and I am going to be buying some this year for gifts.

This is a hymn that I am not familiar with. I have heard it before, but it wasn’t one that we sang often. I loved reading the lyrics. Like all hymns, I found it to have good, solid theology and to speak right to me. Right away, the first verse grabbed me with this line:

“Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.”

In every change, He faithful will remain. He does and will work every situation for our good. Just like April showers bring May flowers, sometimes we have to go through things we don’t enjoy. But they serve a purpose, and God is faithful through it all.

I love you all, and I hope you see God’s faithfulness in your life today and every day. Happy May 1st.

Good morning, friends!

Harold and I are currently headed home to Alabama. Last night was nothing shy of a dream. I still can’t believe that it really happened. Let me tell you how it all came to be.

Not even 2 weeks ago, I got a phone call from a precious friend, Brooke. She said, “How would you like to be my guest at a Helping a Hero event at Richard Childress’ vineyard in North Carolina?” If you remember months ago, Brooke sent me a video of her with Paula Deen and Brooke asked her to tell her friend Mama Sue hello. Well I said, “Brooke, I would love to, but I just don’t know. I have never done anything like this, what do I wear? Who all will be there?” Brooke told me what the dress code would be and then she flippantly mentioned, “Oh yeah. You will be meeting Lee Greenwood, Richard Childress, and Paula Deen.” SAY LESS! Meeting Paula Deen, I’m in! I called Amy and the first thing she said was, “Mom, you have to call Laurel and borrow one of her dresses. I will pick your shoes and bag.” 😂 My friend Laurel is beautiful, and she has the best clothes and style. I did call her and she told me to come over and pick a dress. Y’all, she sent me home with 7 to try! They were all beautiful but we landed on this one (the dress code was casual vineyard attire). On Sunday, Laurel was at the house playing Mahjong and I showed the ladies what I decided to wear, the shoes and bag Amy picked, and the bracelets Amy let me borrow. I want you to know that Laurel took off the necklace that she was wearing and said, “I like this necklace with that dress. You need to wear it.” How precious is that? So at this fancy event, way fancier than anything I have ever been to, I was wearing a borrowed dress and borrowed jewelry, and shoes and a handbag from Amazon If that’s not Mama Sue, I don’t know what is.

We were so touched to see the incredible soldiers that this event honored. We got to meet Paula Deen and Michael, and Paula and I got to visit and talk for a while. She is a doll, and as down to earth as they come. I cannot even remember all of the important people we met, but I wanted to share a few pictures with you. Do you recognize anyone? 😉❤️ The name of the event was “Helping a Hero,” and it raised a lot of money for our REAL HEROES. May God bless them, their families, and the sacrifices they make for our freedoms.

We will be back in Alabama later today. I will return this beautiful dress and jewelry, and go back to working in my garden, thrifting, and cooking. For one magical night I felt like Cinderella, and it was something that I will never forget. Be sure and check out Mama Sue’s Southern Kitchen to see some amazing chefs I met and some plans that we cooked up. 😉👩🏻‍🍳

Good morning, friends! Happy Monday! Yesterday afternoon, I hosted a Mahjong strategy class for the new 2026 card. My precious friend, Kristy taught the class (she is the person that taught me to play) and she is wonderful! We learned some tips and tricks on the new card, and practiced pivoting some of the lines. It was so helpful and so much fun! If you play, what do you think about the new card? Do you have a favorite line? If so, what is it?

I never thought that I would learn Mahjong, much less love it like I do. I used to “play Mahjong” on my phone, but that is nothing at all like the real game. I would highly suggest that if you are at all interested then you learn to play. Most libraries or senior centers offer lessons. It’s such a fun game that brings great community, and it’s good for our brains. Win-win! 🀄️🧠

Doesn’t Roxie look cute in her Mahjong outfit? If you haven’t jumped on the porch goose band wagon yet, I recommend that as well. She just makes me happy, so of course I recommend happiness!

I was just out at Amy and Shawn’s, and Amy was prepping a huge batch of tuna salad for her’s and Shawn’s lunches this week. I like to do this myself. I thought I would come here and ask my friends a few questions…

1. Do you meal prep anything for the week?
2. If so, what?

I always love to get ideas from you all, and I also love to be able to work smarter, not harder. I figured this would be a great way to learn from one another. I can’t wait to read all of your answers.

I’m a little late posting today….we went to the early service and then stayed for Sunday School. I’ve been busy preparing for my sweet friend Kristy, who’s coming to teach a class on the new 2026 Mahjong card, so it’s been a full and joyful morning.
Please know that I never forget you. You are truly appreciated more than words can say. I pray your week ahead is filled with blessings, peace, and joy. I’ll be taking a trip to somewhere I’ve never been before this week, and I’m excited to share pictures with you soon.

Good morning friends. Last Saturday night was our precious Emma‘s prom. She is Chris’s third daughter. I had to brag and share these pictures with you. Don’t you think she looks beautiful? We are so proud of her. She graduates in a few weeks and she will be headed to college in the fall. She has the kindest heart and she has always been the sweetest girl. We love her so.

Good morning, friends!

Some dear friends of ours own Old Baker Farm here in Harpersville. They are building a beautiful chapel on the farm for their daughter’s wedding this summer. It will be available to rent for weddings, and it is going to be beautiful. Last week, Leah mentioned to Amy that before the Sheetrock is hung, they were wanting their friend to go in and write Bible verses on the studs. I thought this was a wonderful idea. Sunday afternoon, Shawn and Amy went out there and that’s what they did. I love knowing that the Word of God is literally the foundation of this amazing place. Have you done this before? What verse would you have written? Leave a comment and let me know.
