While I don't think it's fit to eat, soybean oil is incredibly useful, it’s a superb lubricant for chains and hinges, and it does a fantastic job rejuvenating tired, dried‑out plastics. I've used it to rejuvenate siding and now this mower deck.

History of Soy oil
Industrial uses of soybean oil stretch back more than a thousand years: by 980 CE it was already used as a drying oil for caulking boats, and by the late 1800s it had become a practical substitute for linseed oil in paints thanks to its siccative properties. Through the early 20th century, manufacturers expanded its role into lighting oils, lubricants, rubber substitutes, and dye mordants, and by the mid‑1900s soybean oil was firmly established as a versatile industrial material used in paints, varnishes, soaps, and numerous non‑food applications.

I swear, the “invasive species” narrative has gotten so out of hand that people now point at native wildflowers and shriek like they’ve spotted Godzilla. Fireweed pops up and suddenly it’s “OH NO, IT’LL TAKE OVER!” Take over what, exactly? Your sad, beige, chemically‑dependent patch of non-native turf that looks like it’s been through a house fire?

Honestly, put down the Roundup. You’re not saving the planet, you’re just slow‑roasting yourself, your pets, and the local ecosystem so you can maintain a "lawn" that looks like a sunburnt doormat. And for what? Do people truly have nothing better to do than spend money, time, and their remaining brain cells trying to force an ugly monoculture to survive in a climate it clearly hates?

Wildflowers don’t need pesticides. They don’t need synthetic fertilizers that turn our waterways into algae soup. They don’t need weekly mowing, blowing, trimming, edging, or whatever other loud nonsense people do to their grass. They just grow beautifully like plants have been doing since forever - without your help.
Meanwhile, lawn culture is basically a modern ritual of insane chaos, spend hundreds, make noise all summer, poison everything, and end up with a yard that still looks like crap. Congratulations, you’ve created a high‑maintenance patchy beige carpet outdoors.

And today’s comedy gold? A local gardening group telling someone not to plant native fireweed because it's invasive and might “take over.” Take over what? your fragile, pampered, pesticide‑addicted lawn that can’t survive without constant life support?

When can we all get back to our senses and just enjoy nature and some peace and quiet?

First attempt at a sushi roll - I'm impressed with myself and hubby is delighted - this is an odd flavor fusion - leftover curried veggie rice, avocado, red pepper and nori.
