NEW VIDEO released today on the rarely told story of the Cap Arcona, an ocean liner that the Nazis used as the star of their 1943 Titanic propaganda film. I review the film, tell the ship's history, and reveal the story's absolutely grim ending. (Really, so grim. Worse than you're thinking. The worst.)
There was no way that the combination of "nazi" "shipwreck" "titanic" and "caitlin doughty" wasn't going to get banned on Youtube. So the video is available– 100% free– on Patreon.
MUTINY! Today we bring you a video that was created as we navigated the VAST OCEAN we call YouTube. You might notice that this Patron-only video has the full production value and length of a main channel video. That’s because it was a main channel video. Patrons can watch it here: www.patreon.com/posts/bloody-whale-by-79098027
Truth be told, this video on the whaler Samuel Comstock didn’t quite fit the vision we have for Ask a Mortician.
More truth be told, the last few months we’ve been struggling with the vision of Ask a Mortician.
NOT because we don’t know what we want to make. We know what we want to make: death documentaries with deep, careful research, stories you won’t hear anywhere else, humor, dead bodies, empathy for survivors, calling to account of corporate perpetrators, and our scrappy but sincere viewpoint.
But in light of what happened with the Eastland video (https://youtu.be/cN5hNzVqkOk), we've decided to proceed with a little more care.
It was a tough choice, but we’re going with our gut here, and making this video Patrons-only. But trust: We are continuing to work on several long documentaries that will be revealed in the coming months. STAY TUNED.
Until we release our next main channel video, enjoy the story of Samuel Comstock. One man’s journey as he realizes his big dreams of...uhhhh...commandeering a whale ship and becoming the white pirate king of a Pacific island.

One of my resolutions was to be proud of every single video we put out this year. So far we are one for one, because I absolutely love this video recreating 19th century postmortem and mourning tintypes photographs. ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ https://youtu.be/g7SPbfK0EOg
