Channel update. It's been about six months since my last video and I uploaded a new one last night. Check it out! I learned a lot about this film making it.
I did write and direct a short film! Photography took place in August and it's about 19 minutes long. I've completed a final edit and it's currently in post-production. Very cool. I'll try to submit it to some festivals and just upload it, probably on this channel if it doesn't get a screening. I'll also probably make a video talking about the experience when that happens.
What's going on now! For chatter and video games, give me a follow on Twitch: twitch.tv/areveny. I'm going online at least three times a week.
Finally, I do plan to make more videos for this channel. It would be nice to make another two videos before the year is out.
I also would like to continue making original films, but I don't know how that fits into everything else.
Thank you for your support. I hope I can keep making things.
Hi folks. Channel update: in terms of the channel, we have no channel. I am working on an original short film. I'm in pre-production and casting and paid a deposit on a location today.
Ironically, this came about because while I was researching my last video, about Evil Does Not Exist, I learned it was shot on $150 lens and realized how imminently possible it is that I could make a film. I think video essays aren't a lower form of creation--video essays are indisputably films--but even only making videos on topics I found interesting regardless of marketability I simply can't ignore that this platform made me feel like I was rapidly prototyping content in brief installments instead of really concentrating on fully realized and expressive creative projects. This is my own fault, I suppose.
I'm not sure what will be of the channel. Maybe I'll make more video essays in the future. Maybe I'll upload stuff related to film and hopefully eventually films I'm making. Will I post the films themselves on the channel? I'll certainly consider it if I think the film falls in the space of being good enough that I think it is worth watching, but not good enough to make festivals. This space is probably quite narrow. But I do think whatever I eventually upload, I will be very, very excited to share it with everyone.
Anyways, just a message about what to expect, and why you won't see more videos for a while most likely. I am most active on Letterboxd (letterboxd.com/areveny) where I log every film I watch and write reviews that are closer to my videos, focusing on and analyzing certain themes and context, more than assessing the work.
Hi folks. This channel hit 5000 subscribers. Very cool. At the beginning of the year, I was thinking about possible goals. The channel was around 3k and I didn't set any kind of subscriber goal, but I remember thinking that I would be lucky to hit 4k by 2026, and 5k was out of the question.
Thanks to the interest in a few recent videos, we're at 5000 before May. Great!
But with the excitement, I remind myself that this channel isn't about getting subscribers or replying to comments, though I would like to keep doing those things. People watch and subscribe because of interesting videos in my own voice. So I'm going to try to stay focused and keep making compelling videos. I'm already deep in the research phase of a video about maps, and have plenty of further ideas I'm super eager to start working on.
So thanks for checking out the channel! And stay tuned. I hope I can keep producing videos that people will enjoy.
Hey all. Haven't been making many posts because things are going swimmingly! I uploaded the Big Hero 6 video (go check it out if you haven't!) that I was working on for a solid month or so.
I'm already well into working on the next video, which I hope can come out around the end of this month. I'm excited for that, and have another idea I want to jump on right away after.
I'm going to keep streaming too, suggestions for stream content are welcome as always.
Happy new year everyone. No major update except that one of big resolutions for 2025 is to make videos and stream at a regular pace. I've been working on the next video for a while now, and though I don't shoot for any particular duration but I'm finding quite a number of things to say!
Hope you have a lovely 2025. As always, thanks for the support and stay tuned. Areveny
Folks, I hope you have enjoyed my streams. I just realized that my last two streams with webcam have had terrible audio quality because it was using the audio from the webcam and not my nice microphone that I record my videos with. Guh.
This is a real shame since those videos are pretty cool! Fortunately this will be really easy to fix. I was getting quite annoyed trying to figure out why my audio quality suddenly tanked! I've already scheduled a Thursday stream where I'm going back to the live research format.
Got any suggestions for games or other things for my streams? Please let me know on this post. I'm very open to your ideas!
New video about Dandadan released; go check it out!
I'll be streaming this weekend to celebrate hitting 3000 subscribers. I would like to stream more consistently. Also going to be trying to release another video before winter break is over. Lots of fun stuff coming I hope.
Updates! 1. What to expect soon: one more short this week and one longer video next week before I head out to Portland for Kumoricon.
2. Uploaded a new video about Lunchly and representations of food contamination on Sunday. If you haven't, please check it out! I'm not super keen on commenting on ongoing breaking type stuff, so there won't be a ton of videos of the type, but the topic of how things are represented and circulated in media is interesting to me. I made the whole video in less than 24 hours! It was a bit of a grind but it was fun to knock it out like that.
3. I also am intending to keep the weekly stream for people who enjoy that format. This week's stream will be Wednesday or Thursday. Might do something video-related, might just play Fotrnite.
Let me know, would you be more likely to tune in to live streams on weekdays or weekends? Tell me in the poll, and if you have any other suggestions for streams or things you would like to see.
I've signed up to be a YouTube Partner. I've actually qualified since the beginning of this year, but I hesitated because I was worried signing up would cause more ads on my videos. But I learned that no additional ads are played so I applied over the weekend and was accepted pretty much right away.
Thanks folks! I'm enjoying making new videos and will continue to try to do so.
To celebrate, and just to kick it off, I will be aiming to do my first livestream tomorrow at 6PM PST! In other words, 36 hours after this post goes live. Based on the poll results, I will be doing Q&A and trying to research some video ideas I have which will also preview some upcoming videos. I'm intending 60-90 minutes total and might conclude with some Fortnite gameplay. Not sure if it will be archived. Hope to see you there!

Hey folks,
Got a little bit dislodged from some personal stuff. I'll be working on a short video related to anime for this week.
So be looking out for that. After that, we'll just have to see.
