3 important points from today’s Gospel 👇
Reading from the Holy Gospel according
to Saint Mark 2:23-28

On a Sabbath, Jesus was walking through the fields, and his disciples began to pluck ears of grain as they went. The Pharisees said to him, “Why are your disciples doing what is not permitted on the Sabbath?” He answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? He entered the house of God, in the time of the high priest Abiathar, and ate the consecrated bread—which is not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat—and he gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus added, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
The Word of the Lord.

1) The priority of the person over rigid rules
- Instead of focusing on the prohibition of the Sabbath, Jesus reminds us that the purpose of the Sabbath is life and human dignity. Rules should serve the person, not enslave them.
- Application: if a rule or habit prevents you from caring for someone or doing urgent good, ask if it is truly indispensable. Prioritize humanity and compassion.

2) Necessity and mercy above strict observance
- David ate the sacred bread out of necessity, and Jesus cites this to emphasize that mercy and concrete circumstances carry weight. The life and dignity of people are central.
- Application: in a difficult situation or decision, seek mercy and a solution that protects people, even if it seems contrary to an apparent rule.

3) Jesus’ authority and the Lordship of the Sabbath
- Jesus proclaims Himself the Lord of the Sabbath, reminding us that He is the authentic interpretation of God’s will. His authority brings true freedom, not disorderly license.
- Application: in your life, seek closeness to Jesus to understand the place of faith in your daily decisions. Let His example of compassion and freedom guide your actions.

How to apply this to daily life
- Evaluate your habits: are there self-imposed rules that prevent you from doing good or helping others?
- Practice empathy: in the face of a need, ask what is the most humane and merciful thing you can do.
- Prioritize the person: at work, with family, or in the community, seek solutions that protect dignity and well-being.

Faith and motivation phrase
- "The Lord calls us to a freedom that arises from compassion. Where there is need, there is an opportunity to love; where there is pain, there is an invitation to heal with mercy."
- Keep in mind that faith is best lived when it translates into practical acts of love, especially toward the weak or needy.
