Did you know Microsoft Fabric now has a OneLake storage report? 👀

I have been using it this week and it is genuinely handy!

A bit of context. I just set up a Delta table maintenance process in one of my clients. The usual good housekeeping: run OPTIMIZE to compact the small files, then VACUUM to clean up the old ones that are no longer needed.
And after doing that, the question is always the same: ok, but how much storage did I actually save?

That is exactly where the OneLake storage report came in.

You find it here:
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 > 𝐎𝐧𝐞𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 > 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭
(you need to be a workspace admin, then hit Refresh)

It gives you a per-item breakdown of your OneLake storage, sortable by size. So I could quickly see, table by table, how much data was gone after the maintenance run. And from there it was easy to estimate the OneLake storage cost impact.

One detail I really like: the report splits out soft-deleted and hidden system data separately. That matters, because soft-deleted files are still billed at the same rate as active data until the retention window passes. So you can tell the difference between what is truly freed and what is still on the meter for a few more days.

Before this, getting an item-level storage breakdown was a bit of a pain. The Capacity Metrics app only shows the workspace total, and external tools do not show the hidden system data.

Small but useful feature. If you run any kind of table maintenance in Fabric, it is worth turning on.
