Lisa O’Neill’s mesmerising voice is one of the most evocative in modern folk music. You might recognise her magnificent, deeply emotional cover of Bob Dylan’s “All The Tired Horses” from the final episode of Peaky Blinders but the Irish musician’s 2023 album, All Of This Is Chance, was inspired by the natural world and the deep, old sounds that lie within it, perfectly captured by O’Neill’s stark, redolent voice.
Much loved US four-piece Chastity Belt meld wit, melancholy and the vibe of late-night drinks with friends in a darkened park. Naming their 2024 album Live Laugh Love doesn’t mean they’ve gone all gap year on us, but rather that they’re still very much willing to laugh at themselves and their maudlin Seattle rock. Gauzy guitars and clever, dreamily sung lyrics still abound.
We don’t know a whole lot about RIP Magic but what we do know is that they’re a duo, one of them’s in Sorry, Tyler The Creator is a fan, they just released a double single (Loot/Dox) and their sound “splits the difference between 90s experimental electronic music, 2010s indie-rock, weird European cold wave and Nine Inch Nails”. See you down the front.
Belgian artist @SylvieKreuschMusic previously of Warhaus, makes experimental pop with a bloody and bruised heart at its core. Her brutal lyrics are dressed up in sparkling dancefloor beats and eye-catching, avant-garde visuals. With incredible stage presence and wit to offset the pain, a Sylvie Kreusch set is not to be missed.
Trevor Powers, aka @youth_lagoon, turns home movies into haunting, heartfelt soundscapes. Blending memory, myth, and musical alchemy, Rarely Do I Dream captures boyhood ghosts, distorted Americana, and raw transformation. It’s a dreamy, daring return, intimate yet expansive, where personal history collides with poetic fiction in cinematic, sonic form.
Early 2010s Brooklyn legends @DIIV not only revived shoegaze but also made it out of the blogosphere with their dreamy guitar washes and intimate, whisper-in-your-ear vocals from Zachary Cole Smith. The band’s 2024 album Frog In Boiling Water is “their most effortlessly beautiful record yet” that gazes into oblivion and asks, hey is that a glimmer of hope?
