Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who watches the channel.. I appreciate every single view, whether you’ve been with me from the beginning, just recently or anything in between. Wherever you’re watching from, whatever your religion/background or opinion on the topic that you hold, we are all united to our love for history and quest for knowledge.
My primary goal here is to bring to the internet the individual stories of those whose lives were affected in various ways by the time in Irish history we know as “the troubles”. I believe strongly that hearing about the experiences of those from all “sides” of this conflict will enrich all of our lives in different ways; from increasing our knowledge of history and that of generations to come to deepening our understanding of the human experience and condition. Furthermore I firmly believe that those who lived through this time and had their lives permeated, affected and sometimes defined by this conflict, DESERVE to have their story and perspective added to the historical record to live forever in the modern-day history books of digital media.
To celebrate 10k subs I’ll be doing a Q&A so please send on any questions you’d like answered to thegoodlistenerpodcast@gmail.com or drop them in the comments below.
Thank so much for being a part of this thing I’m building here.
Was hoping to have an episode ready for ye this week but wasn’t able to do the interview due to technical difficulties so next week we’ll be back with a nice juicy one 👌👌
Halloween 1973: A hijacked helicopter lands in the exercise yard of Mountjoy Prison and leaves with 3 highly-prolific IRA prisoners in one of the world’s most daring escapes.
Meet the mastermind behind the plot, Brendan Hughes (East Tyrone)
📢 This Friday (tomorrow) I’ll have up the final part of John Nixon’s story where we cover the 1980 IRA/INLA Hunger Strike and John’s life after prison
John also provided a fascinating, insider account on The Burning of Long Kesh in October 1974 which I’ll be releasing around the upcoming 50th anniversary
(Again please submit any questions for upcoming Q&A below or email thegoodlistenerpodcast@gmail.com )
Have some nice ones in the pipeline that I’m prepping for at the moment including the author of “Bandit Country” so keep an eye out in the coming weeks.
🚨🚨In the next weeks I want to do a Q&A video so any questions you want answered about the pod, the guests, myself or anything else, please drop them below ⬇️⬇️⬇️ or email me at thegoodlistenerpodcast@gmail.com
Most subscribers would have seen Brendan’s interview (one of my personal favorites) but this clip is taken from the very end of it so many may not have caught it and I felt the story deserved it's own video.
📢 Final part of my interviews with John Nixon will be the next episode

On this day in 1984 the IRA came incredibly close to assassinating the British Prime Minister, Margret “The Iron Lady” Thatcher.
Hear the full story of how the operation was planned, executed and just how lucky of an escape she had.
