Music, TV, tech, books - and more! Song, book and TV reviews.

For over 35 years I have been listening to, and researching, UK and American rock and pop bands, building up an extensive and (hopefully) eclectic music collection in the process.

A bassist and guitarist. In the 90s I was an amateur musician and songwriter of faith-based songs, producing music in my home studio.

Thesedays, I prefer to analyse song meanings, do TV and book reviews, and research lots of other topics: some trivial, some literally matters of life and death!

I’ve been spending a lot of time re-watching Boon lately, and it’s struck me how rare Ken and Harry’s dynamic actually was for 80s television. Most ‘buddy’ shows of that era were built on constant friction (e.g. Minder), but theirs was built on genuine, quiet loyalty.

It got me thinking—do you think TV shows today have lost that ‘quiet’ friendship, or are we just looking at the past through rose-tinted glasses? Would love to hear your take on what makes a great TV partnership. (P.S. Here's where I do my thinking....!) 🔥

I highly recommend watching From the Easybeats to AC/DC, an excellent BBC documentary about the Australian rock scene and how Vanda and Young dominated the Australian and global charts.
It's a great way to learn about the origins of AC/DC via the massively underrated Easybeats, George Young's first band.
