Schubert’s F minor Sonata lives again Franz Schubert: Piano Sonata in F minor, D.625 & D.505 – completed by Neil Crossland Schubert Piano Sonata in F minor D.625 & D.505 movement 2 starts at 8:20 This is my completion of this Sonata. movement 3 starts at 11:48 movement 4 starts at 15:28
1st movement unFINISHED. My completion starts at bar 117 to the end. 2nd/3rd & 4th movements completed by Schubert
Neil Crossland’s completion of Schubert’s Piano Sonata in F minor, D.625, together with the slow movement D.505, restores coherence and wholeness to one of Schubert’s most enigmatic unfinished piano works. Composed in 1818, the sonata survives with its first movement incomplete—Schubert left a substantial opening section, but the development and recapitulation were never finished. The remaining three movements, a touching Adagio and a lively Scherzo with Trio, stand as complete pieces, hinting at the composer’s evolving maturity. In his completion, Neil Crossland has reconstructed the missing portions of the first movement with great stylistic fidelity, drawing upon Schubert’s harmonic language, motivic logic, and characteristic rhythmic drive. The resulting structure feels both natural and inevitable, offering a glimpse of what Schubert might have intended had he completed the work himself.
I am excited to share that I have completed Franz Schubert's Piano Sonata in C Major, D. 279 by finishing the incomplete fourth movement. Schubert, known for his expressive melodies and rich harmonic language, left this sonata unfinished, with only three movements written and a fourth movement almost complete. Inspired by his distinct style and the beauty of the existing movements, I set out to create a final movement that would seamlessly blend with Schubert's original work. My goal was to craft a conclusion that authentically reflects Schubert's musical voice, capturing his lyrical elegance and structural balance. This completion not only provides a fitting end to the sonata but also allows listeners to experience the work in its entirety, as it might have been had Schubert completed it himself. I hope this addition brings a new dimension to the sonata and resonates with those who admire Schubert’s timeless music. *🎼 Scores & sheet music* neilcrossland.com/schubert-piano-sonata-in-c-major… www.sheetmusicdirect.com/se/ID_No/938840/Product.a… www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/schubert-unfinis… www.scoreexchange.com/scores/schubert-piano-sonata… www.jwpepper.com/schubert-sonata-in-c-major-d-279-…
Puccini: Crisantemi – Arranged for Piano by Neil Crossland
Puccini composed Crisantemi overnight in 1890 as a heartfelt elegy for a lost friend. This new piano arrangement brings that same sense of mourning and beauty to the keyboard — one instrument, one voice, endless emotion. Listen and let Puccini’s most intimate work bloom in a new light.
Puccini – Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums), arranged for Piano Solo by Neil Crossland In this new arrangement for piano solo by Neil Crossland, the sonorous textures of the string ensemble are faithfully captured and reimagined for the keyboard. The sustained lyricism of the original is conveyed through flowing accompaniment figures and careful voicing that preserve the work’s elegiac atmosphere. Crossland’s transcription retains Puccini’s harmonic depth while exploiting the piano’s expressive range—from the quietest, introspective moments to climaxes of operatic breadth. This piano version offers both a tribute to Puccini’s gift for melody and a fresh vehicle for pianistic colour. The arrangement highlights the music’s structural clarity and emotional directness, allowing performers to explore a wide palette of tone and phrasing while maintaining the intimate spirit of the original quartet. Whether heard in its original string form or in this sensitive and idiomatic piano transcription, Crisantemi remains one of Puccini’s most heartfelt and moving instrumental works—a brief but unforgettable meditation on loss and beauty.
