1. 99% of the human body's elements came from space

The oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen in our bodies were formed inside stars through nucleosynthesis. So, in a way, we are literally made of stardust!

In 2016, scientists discovered a bacterium called Ideonella sakaiensis that can break down plastic and use it as an energy source. This discovery could help reduce plastic pollution.



3. Fear can temporarily reduce our ability to hear

When we experience extreme fear or anxiety, the brain prioritizes vision and response mechanisms, which can momentarily decrease our hearing sensitivity.



4. A virus can infect another virus

Usually, viruses infect animals or plants, but scientists discovered a virus called Sputnik, which can invade other viruses and disrupt their functions.



5. Climate change is altering how sound travels in the ocean

As carbon dioxide levels rise, ocean water becomes more acidic. This affects how sound waves are absorbed, meaning that underwater sounds might travel differently in the future, potentially changing how marine animals communicate.

Observations revealed that gamma waves (30–100 Hz) increased just before and after the patient’s death. These waves are typically active when we:

Recall past memories

Engage in deep concentration (e.g., reading or thinking)

Researchers believe this surge in gamma waves may suggest that the brain briefly retrieves memories at the moment of death.
