Collecting Elvis Presley records since 1973, then collecting them all again on cd. Being an Elvis addict means buying the same thing many times! Getting back into playing records after over 20 years without a player!
Back from viewing number 2. My friend, Gerry, is a drummer, likes any good music but not a fan of anyone in particular. His reaction at the end. “That was bloody brilliant…. I wasn’t expecting to get emotionally involved but he just drew me in.”
I was hit by another thought. Finally the world gets to see the Elvis that we fans have always known. Not the icon, the media tragic figure, but the human musician, loving music, performing, collaborating with those on the stage and getting caught up in the music. We owe Baz a huge hug and congratulations! And to Elvis… My boy, my boy!
Got a ticket for Monday morning and persuaded a friend to come along. Gerry is a musician, played drums in local bands and worked in theatre for many years. Not a fan, but likes “any good music”. It will be interesting to see his response.
Had another spell in hospital, didn’t feel well so they took me as a precaution. Happy to be home and the usual “you must rest” from the doctor. Will make a video soon. Thank you to those that messaged me. There was a pile of post for me to open when I got back, including a rare version of a common UK album. More soon…
On Saturday evening, the 16th, the Elvis Forum will be doing a live stream. Note that due to a problem with YT the forum has been rebranded as "Elvis NOW and Then". You may need to subscribe again. Hopefully see you there. youtube.com/@ELVISNOWandThen
In Viva Las Vegas Elvis appears with three talented and beautiful women. This is from the What'd I Say scene. Of course we all know Ann Margaret. But also appearing are Teri Garr (1) who will forever be Inga in Young Frankenstein (would you like a roll in the hay?) and Toni Basil (2) probably best known for the hit Mickey, but an incredible dancer and choreographer. It must have been tough, being Elvis! Teri can also be seen dancing in Kissin Cousins and Girl Happy.
Good news from the cardiologist yesterday. I am now officially discharged from their care. On 13 August it will be two years since the heart attack. Having a great week off work, England 2-1 up in a great Test series, Leeds are back in the Premiership, new Elvis movie to look forward to and there's a brand new day on the horizon! I went through it, but my wife has probably suffered more than me. She told me that she was terrified that she would lose me, but she never let it show at the time. Sometimes we are so busy dealing with life, we don't see what others are going through. In October we will have been married 11 years, but we first met in 1998 and then didn't see each other for about 15 years. But within days of meeting her, I knew. I wrote this for her, which she kept folded in her bag all those years.
For Ekaterina (1998) I whispered your name and the breeze held its breath a while The flowers shrank to buds, ashamed of their feeble smile
I whispered your name and the sun was not so proud It blushed a shade of crimson and hid behind a cloud
I whispered your name and the music missed a beat Each note wept a silent tone, fell broken at my feet
I whispered your name and it diminished every other word I whispered your name but I don't think you even heard
Just read first report on the Elvis Evolution in London. Whilst they cannot reveal any details, the advice was to “lower your expectations”. No hologram, no new footage, pretty much an “immersive theatrical” experience. Hopefully anyone that goes will still enjoy it, but I will give it a miss.
The plan is to live stream Saturday evening into the night, so that people in other time zones have a chance to pop on. Thanks to Adam (Elvis Presley Collector Group channel) Streamyards is set up so be prepared! If you want to pop in to say hello and show something from your collection, I will need your email address and first name please as, on the night, I will have to send you a link to join. tcbsince73@gmx.co.uk “Everybody come aboard!”…. Just not all at once! Steve
