Letโ€™s Understand MPLS Router Roles!
In an MPLS network, every router plays a unique role in ensuring fast and intelligent packet forwarding. Letโ€™s break it down in the simplest way ๐Ÿ‘‡

1๏ธโƒฃ Provider Edge (PE) Router
The PE Router sits at the edge of the service providerโ€™s MPLS cloud.
It connects customer networks (CE routers) to the MPLS backbone.
๐Ÿ‘‰ It adds or removes labels from packets entering or leaving the providerโ€™s MPLS domain.
๐Ÿ’ก Example: When traffic comes from a customer site, the PE router pushes an MPLS label before sending it into the core.

2๏ธโƒฃ Customer Edge (CE) Router
The CE Router is located at the customerโ€™s premises.
It connects to the providerโ€™s PE router but doesnโ€™t run MPLS itself.
๐Ÿ‘‰ It just sends/receives normal IP packets.
๐Ÿ’ก Think of it as the โ€œgatewayโ€ between your company and your service provider.

3๏ธโƒฃ Label Switch Router (LSR)
These are core routers inside the providerโ€™s MPLS backbone.
Their job? Swap labels as packets move through the network.
๐Ÿ‘‰ No routing lookup โ€” just fast label-based switching!

4๏ธโƒฃ Label Switched Path (LSP)
This is the end-to-end path that packets follow across the MPLS network.
Created dynamically by the control plane (LDP, RSVP).
๐Ÿ‘‰ You can think of it as a โ€œvirtual tunnelโ€ through the provider cloud.

5๏ธโƒฃ Ingress LSR
This is the entry point of the MPLS domain.
Itโ€™s usually the PE router that adds (pushes) the MPLS label to the packet.

6๏ธโƒฃ Egress LSR
This is the exit point of the MPLS domain.
It removes (pops) the label before sending the packet to the destination CE router.

7๏ธโƒฃ Intermediate LSR
Routers between the ingress and egress.
They swap labels and forward packets quickly inside the core โ€” no IP lookup needed.
