The other day, I saw a real estate listing for 18 crores in a suburb of Chennai. Millions of views/likes/shares are seen as no big deal in the Reels and Shorts era we live in. When crores and millions are thrown around so casually, both online and offline, I still felt like sharing these stats from my podcast - Kadhai Osai.

This is the result of work put in over a span of six years. The YouTube channel, which now has just over 17,000 subscribers, features only audio content in Tamil. Together, YouTube and Spotify have brought in a total of around 46,000 listeners.

In today’s world, this might not seem like a big number. I don’t even have 1 percent of these people writing a comment, sending a message, or reaching out to say they listen to my content. I don’t even know how many of them are actively engaging with it.

There have been days when I’ve felt disheartened, especially when cringe content goes viral. Yes, there is an audience for everything. And yes, I know I will never go viral because my content is not made for that.

But today, I realise something: this number, 46,000, is not a small one. It must be the population of quite a few small towns around the world, right? I may not know each one of my listeners, but I know that somewhere, someone is finding joy or comfort in the stories I tell. Most of them are silent, they may never reach out, but I am truly grateful for each one of them. They have been instrumental in this journey.

Six years of consistency and effort have brought me here. Looking back, I would say this path was about being in the right place at the right time. And maybe it is time I stopped looking at these stats as just numbers and started seeing them as people. People who chose to give their time and attention to my work. That is never to be taken for granted.
