The “Dead Internet Theory” is a conspiracy theory (might actually be true nowadays) suggesting that internet’s content and interactions are no longer generated by humans but by bots and AI algorithms. People believe that since around 2016 or 2017, the internet has been overtaken by artificially generated content, leading to a decline in genuine human activity online.

Today, 500M people use ChatGPT or other chatbots every single day and 70% of Gen Z has used AI to create content on the internet. Experts say that in only two years from now, 90% of the content posted on the internet will be AI generated.
