Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has slammed the Uttarakhand government’s ₹25,000 reward in the Anjel Chakma murder case, calling it “shameful” and a gross undervaluation of a young life.
Anguished by the move, the Tipra Motha founder announced a ₹10 lakh personal reward for any credible information leading to the arrest of the main accused, who is believed to have fled the country.
Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student from Tripura, died after being brutally assaulted in Dehradun while standing up against racial abuse. The case has sparked widespread outrage across the Northeast, reigniting concerns over the safety of students outside the region.

Following directions from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand government has approved immediate financial aid for Tarun Prasad Chakma, father of the late Tripura student Anjel Chakma.
The first instalment of Rs 4,12,500 has been released to the family. The assistance has been sanctioned under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Peaceful March Against Racial Violence to Be Held in Delhi
New Delhi | December 31, 2025
A peaceful march in memory of late Anjel Chakma, a victim of racial violence, will be held at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on December 31, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
The march is being organised by the Northeast Students’ Society, Delhi University (NESSDU) in collaboration with several Northeast student organisations. It aims to demand a fair and transparent investigation, justice for Anjel Chakma (12 February 2001 – 26 December 2025), and to raise awareness against racism and discrimination faced by people from the Northeast.
Students and supporters will gather in solidarity to call for safety, dignity, and equal treatment of Northeast communities across India.
