The Modern Musician podcast is back! Kicking things off with a great chat with our buddy Phil Dyer, with whom we just filmed a fantastic guitar course on chords & modal theory. In this chat we cover Phil's experiences as a guitarist growing up in Liverpool, the session & function band scene, and what it was like playing gigs sometimes 7 nights per week. Phil also talks about his feelings walking into work the day after playing an arena show, and why he loves the UK hip-hop scene.

Hi everyone! Hope you are doing OK out there amidst the craziness! After months of hard work we have just launched a brand new Musicisum course for the guitarists out there who want to unlock complete melodic freedom on their instrument.
Advanced Melodic Concepts features 5 hours of lessons from the incredible Phil Dyer, and isn't for the faint of heart when it comes to music theory! âž¡ www.musicisum.net/advanced-melodic-concepts We wanted to go beyond just teaching the modes as a bunch of scale shapes, so this course breaks down all of the theory behind modes, teaches you how to build chords, and how to apply this knowledge to your writing & improvisation. It also demystifies a lot of the confusion around the subject of "jazz chords"; all those chords like 7s, 9s, 11s, 13s, add 7s, add 9s, add 11s, add 13s, and more are completely broken down so that you will understand how they are constructed and how & when to use them in your playing.
There are a whole bunch of lessons for you to get stuck into. Each one comes with tab, and the final lesson is a complete breakdown of a track called "Practise What You Preach" that Phil wrote for this course.
