Seeking Consistency and Accountability in the Migration Debate
The recent comments by Senator Price and the subsequent strong reaction from the Opposition Leader, and loud condemnation from members of the Indian diaspora, including the Mayor Sid have once again brought the topic of migration and community cohesion into sharp focus.
While I believe accusations against any group must be made with care and evidence, the reaction also prompts important questions about consistency and accountability that are rarely asked in public discourse. My concern isn't with the vast majority of hard-working, law-abiding, full tax paying migrants, including Indian origin migrants, rather, it is with the glaring silence from these very leaders on serious issues that undermine the integrity of our migration system and harm Australia as a whole.
When figures like Mayor Vashist ‘rightly’ speak out against division, one must ask: where is the equally powerful voice condemning the well-documented problems that fuel public anxiety?
• Where is the loud, public outrage from diaspora leaders over the rampant fraudulent documentation (including IELTS scores and degrees) that has led to deportations from Canada, New Zealand, and the U.S., and because of which Australian universities finally started to combat by blacklisting applicants from specific Indian states, after noticing silence from Australian Government?
• Where is the concerted campaign within the community against the exploitation of Australian welfare systems, such as the massive fraud targeting the NDIS, aged care, and childcare sectors, which has been repeatedly highlighted by Australian authorities?
• Where is the condemnation of the "capital flight" of over US$7 billion in remittances sent from Australia to India in a single year? While sending money home is a personal right, the scale raises a fair question about the long-term economic contribution versus that of other migrant groups who reinvest more proportionally within Australia.
• Last but not the least, why are these leaders silent when Indians are found involved in fake RTOs, faking documentation, issuing qualifications to those who are neither trained or properly assessed, sending unqualified workers in Australian workforce. These fake RTOs are also damaging Australian workforce and tax payers’ money also used in RTOs funding programs.
Remaining silent on these issues while loudly decrying political criticism appears to many Australians as selective advocacy. It seems to defend the community's image without addressing the behaviours that tarnish it.
True leadership and unity are not just about defending against external criticism. They are also about having the courage to address internal problems openly and honestly. The failure to do so fuels the very divisions these leaders claim to oppose, as it creates a perception of a community that is unwilling to hold itself to the same standards it demands from others.
Until diaspora leaders use their platform to loudly and consistently condemn the fraud and exploitation perpetrated by individuals and groups within their own community, many Australians will view calls for "unity" as a one-sided demand for Immunity from legitimate Scrutiny.

AUKUS is often sold as a leap forward for Australia’s defence and energy future, with research and collaboration as part of the deal—but the reality is more complicated. While the US and UK are advancing rapidly towards nuclear fusion, Australia is only being handed fission technology for submarines. This creates a dangerous imbalance: we gain military hardware, but risk being left dependent on foreign partners for the clean energy breakthroughs of tomorrow. The European Union is already investing heavily in fusion—why shouldn’t Australia? In this vlog, I argue that we must secure a place in the fusion race, whether through AUKUS collaboration or independent initiatives. Otherwise, our defence pact today could lock us into permanent technological dependence tomorrow.

When a close ally publicly criticises a sovereign nation's decision, what does it say about the state of the partnership? This video breaks down the recent, highly unusual public rebuke of Australia's Prime Minister by the US Ambassador to Israel and the Israeli PM.
We explore why this breach of diplomatic protocol matters more than the political decision itself, and how the response from across the Australian political spectrum—including leading Jewish community voices—reveals a powerful unity in defence of our national sovereignty and respectful dialogue.
This isn't about partisan politics. It's about the fundamental principles of how nations, especially allies, should engage with each other with mutual respect.
Key Points Discussed:
• The incident: A breakdown of the undiplomatic public criticism.
• The Australian response: Unprecedented unity from all sides of politics and the community.
• The core principle: Why sovereignty and diplomatic decorum are non-negotiable.
• The path forward: How true allies debate through proper channels.
As mentioned, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) statement can be found here: www.ecaj.org.a/...
Have your say in the comments:
Do you believe public rebukes between allies are an effective tool, or do they damage the foundation of trust?
