Wandering Ginza Butterfly Collection (Limited Edition Blu-ray)

On the same year that she defined the action heroine with her role in the Female Prisoner Scorpion series, Japanese screen legend Meiko Kaji teamed up with future Sister Street Fighter director Kazuhiko Yamaguchi for a diptych of gambling, deception and violence set on the mean streets of 1970s’ Tokyo: Wandering Ginza Butterfly and its sequel She Cat Gambler!

The first film sees Kaji’s character Nami “The Red Cherry Blossom” returning to her old stomping ground in the seedy Tokyo district of Ginza after a stint in prison for killing a yakuza boss. She soon settles in, living in her uncle’s pool hall and working at the local hostess club. But when ruthless yakuza Owada (Koji Nanbara, 11 Samurai) attempts to take control of the club, Nami and her uncle devise a plan to take him down. In the sequel, Kaji is paired up with the equally legendary Sonny Chiba at his most charismatic as the streetwise Ryuji, who takes a shine to Nami and decides to help her on her quest to avenge her father. Together they’ll comb through every seedy gambling den and lowlife ruffian of the Ginza underworld until Nami finally zeroes in on her prey.

Meiko Kaji is magnetic as the steely and righteous Nami, whose foray into Tokyo’s sordid back alleys is brought to life by Yamaguchi’s energetic direction in this electric spectacle of 1970s Japanese crime cinema.

London, 21st January: A severed hand beckons from an open grave… BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB makes its worldwide 4K UHD debut on April 6, with an astounding brand new 4K Dolby Vision restoration. The Collector’s Edition includes superb new artwork by Johnny Dombrowski, two posters, a 64 page perfect bound booklet featuring new essays, the original press kit, and a host of fascinating extras.

Based on a novel by Dracula author Bram Stoker, and directed by Seth Holt (Taste of Fear), the 1971 film was scripted by Christopher Wickling (who wrote DEMONS OF THE MIND, STUDIOCANAL’s other Hammer release in April), with dazzling cinematography and production design from Hammer regulars Arthur Grant (DEMONS OF THE MIND and STUDIOCANAL's March release FEAR IN THE NIGHT) and Scott MacGregor (Vampire Circus).

SYNOPSIS:

Years later, Corbeck (James Villiers) wishes to resurrect Tera and use her immense power for his own nefarious ends. The Collector’s Edition includes both UHD and Blu-ray discs, new artwork by Johnny Dombrowski, two posters, and a 64 page booklet featuring new essays, the original press kit, and a host of fascinating extras.

One of Hammer’s most ambitious and under-appreciated films, DEMONS OF THE MIND, directed by Peter Sykes (To The Devil A Daughter), and scripted by Christopher Wickling (who wrote BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB, STUDIOCANAL’s other Hammer release in April), should finally find its place as a top rank British Gothic folk horror with this stunning new release - rather than be shelved and then relegated to the second half of a double bill as it was when it was first released in the 1970s.

The cast is stacked with stalwart British talent including Robert Hardy (BAFTA-nominated for All Creatures Great & Small), Shane Briant (Straight On Till Morning), Yvonne Mitchell (BAFTA-winner for The Divided Heart), Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones, Michael Hordern (Barry Lyndon) and A Clockwork Orange stars Gillian Hills and Patrick Magee. Described by Bloody Disgusting as a “fresh and distinct Hammer horror gem”, with “strikingly beautiful visuals” (from BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB cinematographer Arthur Grant, who also shot the Hammer thriller FEAR IN THE NIGHT, due to be released by STUDIOCANAL in March), this ‘nightmare of terror’ will get under your skin and haunt your dreams.

SYNOPSIS: Baron Zorn (Robert Hardy) is convinced that his son Emil (Shane Briant) and daughter Elizabeth (Gillian Hills) are suffering from a hereditary madness. In an attempt to contain their insanity, he keeps them imprisoned and drugged, yet these measures are not enough to stop his children from expressing their decadent desires and violent natures. Desperate for a cure, Zorn employs the discredited Dr. Falkenberg (Patrick Magee) to investigate his family’s plight…
