The Mighty Cave Temples of Badami:
Badami is a small town, but it is very famous because of its amazing rock-cut cave temples. It is surrounded by beautiful red sandstone hills and a calm lake called Agastya Lake. The view is very peaceful and perfect for photography too.
A Little About Its History
Now let’s talk a little about the history. These caves were built a long, long time ago, around the 6th and 7th century. That means they are almost 1,400 years old! They were built during the rule of the Chalukya dynasty, especially under the king called Pulakeshin I and his sons.
The Chalukya kings loved art, religion, and architecture, so they made these caves as temples inside the hills. That’s why we call them rock-cut temples, because they are not built using bricks — they are carved directly into the rocks.
