"A MUSICAL EPIPHANY":
I have consumed 2 months of producer beat making content..
I have concluded that no one ACTUALLY PLAYS INSTRUMENTS ANYMORE....
This also made me realize that the "STALE" feeling in music is a lack of "MULTI-LAYERED PERFORMANCES"
The movement (heart) of music comes from each instrument being a performance...
The best advice I got (around 2004-5) for making beats:
"Imagine yourself as a band"
Simple advice for sure... But PIVOTAL in my approach....
I know that this may be a low hanging epiphany BUT you gotta understand I don't consume other peoples content when it comes to music..
I really didn't know that a lot of beat makers no longer 'MAKES MUSIC' anymore..
Even SAMPLING is a performance.. From the ORIGINAL sample to the playing of the cuts on an MPC it's a performance..
The "Samples" producers are making are just a bunch of clicked in notes with NO HEART...
The lack of HEART is like AIDS in HIP HOP right now... ngl.
With ALL THAT SAID... Switching out of FL STUDIO and really creating has opened my eyes to this recently..
