Channel Breakdown
Volcanoes, volcanic landscapes (active, extinct & ancient), volcanic park tours, earthquakes and geothermal areas. Also wild weather, unusual natural aerial phenomena, lightning, storms, time lapses, tornadoes, & occasional astronomy are about 50% of the channel. Volcano updates *I put an emphasis on Hawaiian and Iceland volcano updates.

Episode 14 of Kilauea's summit eruption has stopped at 1349 HST 20 March 2025 after nearly 30 hours of activity. The first 24 hours was marked by low level piston like activity followed by high lava fountains reaching nearly 800'/240m in height. Here is a photo showing lava fountains exceeding 600'/180m

Episode 12 of Kilauea's summit eruption ended at 1037 HST on 5 Mar 2025 after 22 hours of eruption. Expect episode 13 to start anytime between 9-14 March 2025.

I was a little under the weather the past few days. Kilauea erupted for around 13 hours from 1822 25 Feb 2025 to 0706 26 Feb 2025. Around 80% of the crater floor was covered with lava. Fountains of lava appeared to reach 500-600' according to free fall calculator. The tiltmeters showed a 10 microradian of deflation after the eruption start. Inflation started immediately after the eruption stopped. Period of pause maybe longer this time than the last. Target dates for next eruption between 4-10 March 2025

Since Kilauea's summit eruption episode 10 lasted only 13 hours and ended in the morning of 20 Feb 2025 the target dates for episode 11 is 24 Feb-1 March 2025. Magma remains just below the vents out of sight

Just got back from western NC! Kilauea erupted again for 13 hours then stopped on 25-26 Jan. USGS states it may restart again within 1-5 days!!
