The first, Old Pal Aonghas, began as a fiddle tune from Eilidh, an affectionate tribute to her teacher, mentor and old friend Aonghas Grant, for his 90th birthday. Kaela responded to the melody with a beautiful song ,imagining Aonghas in his prime, up on the hill, where he spent many happy hours during his amazing 94 years on earth.Aonghas has left us an enormous legacy of music, stories and lore in his wake, and we’re proud to share this musical tribute to him with you.
The second track is the album’s opener ,Up The Mcfud, a total banger of a tune from Eilidh, celebrating another pal ,Sarah McFadyen of Poozies fame.
The third is Old Pal Aonghas ( Sunrise Tripout Mix) . As well as being a multi talented multi instrumentalist, our bassist Euan McLaughlin is also a member of Scottish dub folk collective An Dannsa Dub and has brought his skills to journey deeper into the track using dubbed out FX and phsychedelic textures, alongside samples of old Aonghas himself.
