In recent weeks, major groundwork has been underway at the site of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Springfield Missouri Temple. The location is on 38 acres off of Evans Road and Farm Road 175, just west of U.S. 65.
In addition to the site work, building permit requests have been filed by church officials with the City of Springfield. The filings, which are still pending approval, signal that other aspects of the project could begin soon.
Plans call for a single-story, 29,000 square foot building similar in size and architecture to the church’s new Bentonville Arkansas Temple near Interstate 49, which opened in 2023
The announcement about the Springfield Missouri Temple project was made in April 2023. It will be the church’s second in the Ozarks region, with the first being the one in Bentonville. It’ll be the third temple in Missouri, with the others being in Kansas City and Saint Louis.
The church has not yet released a timeline for construction or an opening date.
Delay on construction of the temple was caused by the presence of bats and their need to move out of the area on their own. Glad we have this opportunity to finally see this House of the Lord be built here in Springfield!

This Church News Article is in my Ward, I am blessed to teach some of these kids for Sunday School, but they are the real teachers! They are smart and proactive! They put on a “Strength of Adults” program! I am sorry to have missed this activity last month. Maybe the youth in your Ward may try it next!
