Last weekend we went to Kawagoe for the Million Lights festival. They line the streets with many paper lanterns and the local matchlock gun troop parade the streets firing off their guns at specific intervals.
To top it off we also went to Hikawa Shrine, famous for its wind chimes, koi omikuji and misty Torii gate.

We’ve been to Saitama, Ibaraki, Tokyo and even Kanagawa so far this summer! 🌊

We’re due for some of the hottest days yet this summer next week so take care if you’re out and about.

With sweaty days like today it reminds me of one of my favourite summer escapes in Japan. Every year I used to go to Izu Oshima island, a volcanic island that is funnily enough a part of Tokyo!

With gorgeous views of Mt. Fuji and Kanagawa/Chiba it really is one of the best places for sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling, diving and just makes the perfect place to escape the humidity of the city for a little while.

Did you know that this shrine’s front gate is actually in a lake kilometres away?!

This is Kashima Jingu Shrine in Kanagawa prefecture, one of the oldest shrines in all of Japan over a whopping 2,000 years old!

The shrine is home of the white deer of Nara, which originated here many years ago before moving west.

There is so much history to this shrine it’s really quite interesting! From deer to koi carp to purifying waters.

A must visit if you’re in the area!
