What if the reason why Kinger’s always in the fort, other than the fact that he can memory better in the dark, is that Caine can’t interact with it? Maybe Kinger made the code himself, therefore Caine can’t interact with it, since he’s not familiar with it.
Maybe Kinger’s dissassociation in the light is on purpose- to make sure he doesn’t go fully insane and abstracts in the circus is because he trained himself to only be senstient in the dark?
That way he doesn’t get overwhelmed with the feeling of being trapped, because he can’t see that he is.
