Welcome to the Southern Shaolin Center – dedicated to the art of Hung Gar Kung Fu as taught through the lineage of Sifu Chan Hon Chung.
Here we explore traditional Southern Shaolin martial arts with a modern and personal approach.
While our foundation is rooted in the classical system, the open-minded spirit – inspired by Jeet Kune Do – reflects my own way of thinking, learning, and teaching.
Expect breakdowns, forms, philosophy, and applications – combining loyalty to tradition with a living, evolving practice.

MY Sifu ♥️ Udi Raanan
___________________________________________
Words by Bey Logan:
Our prayers and respect for the memory of Sifu Uddi Raanan, a true legend of Israel's Hung Gar community (edited by Bey Logan).
As some may know, I began my Hong Kong Hung Gar training at the school of Sifu Cheung Yee-keung. As a foreigner training there, I was always in the shadow of the great Sifu Uddi, who had lived at the kwoon and left many great memories. He was always a big man, in every sense, and I heard tales of how the whole floor used to shake when he dropped down during the Woo Deep Cheurng form, how many bowls of rice he could eat at a single sitting...! I learned most of what I know about this legend from my beloved kung fu brothers Amihai Rigbi and Nadav Gottfried.
Nadav sent me the following information about the life of this remarkable man:
Sifu Uddi Raanan (1954-2024) was born in Haifa, Israel. His first experience in martial arts was in Judo.
At the age of 18 he joined the Israeli armed forces, and was introduced to Shorinji Kempo Karate, in which he earned a 3rd degree black belt.
He later ventured to Hong Kong, where he started training under the late Hung Kuen Grandmaster Chan Hon-Chung. This was in the mid-1970's. He was one of few westerners (let alone Israelis!) whom Chan Sifu taught.
Returning to Israel in 1978, he opened the Avichai Center for Martial Arts in Haifa.
Uddi presided as the head of the Israeli branch for Hung Kuen, with a parallel career as an organic health store owner. Throughout the years, Uddi kept very close and warm ties to Sigung Chan and his successor Sifu Cheung Yee Keung, visiting yearly for a month-long training sojourn, as well as sending top students to train in Hong Kong under Sifu Cheung, a tradition that lives on to this day.
Uddi passed away on the 28th of January 2024 after a long fight with heart failure related illnesses. He is left by four children and countless students, who all regard Sifu Uddi as a father and mentor, as he embodied the phrase "A teacher for a day, a father for a lifetime" 一日為師,終身為父
זיכרונו לברכה May he rest in peace
