• THE NAMESAKE 📚✨
JHUMPA LAHIRI

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This book tells the story of the Ganguli family, especially Ashima, Ashoke and their son Gogol, who move from India to America to build a new life. It is a story about family, identity, love and the quiet pain of being far from home 🌍💔

Ashima is my favourite character. I cried for her. She leaves her entire world behind—her parents, her language, her culture—and lives in a place where nothing feels familiar. Her loneliness, strength and silent sadness broke my heart 😢🤍

Ashoke is also a gem. He is calm, loving and carries his pain quietly. He supports his family without making noise about his sacrifices. His softness and patience made me love him even more ✨

Gogol, their son, struggles with his name and his identity. He hates his name because it feels strange and doesn’t fit anywhere—not fully Indian, not fully American. He feels lost between two worlds, trying to understand who he really is. His journey shows how a name is not just a word, but a part of who you are and who you want to become 💭📝

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS BOOK:

✅ Deep emotions and meaningful writing
✅ A beautiful story of family, love and identity
✅ The pain of being stuck between two cultures 🌏
✅ Characters who feel real and unforgettable

WHAT I DIDN'T FIND:

❌ Not beginner friendly
❌ The story can feel complex and hard to understand at times

This book made me cry in a slow and silent way. It reminded me of the quiet sacrifices parents make, the loneliness of leaving home and how identity is something we grow into. I loved this book with all my heart 🥺🤍

• THE FOREST OF ENCHANTMENTS 🌿✨
CHITRA BANERJEE DIVAKARUNI

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This book tells the Ramayana from Sita’s side. It is not just about gods, wars and kingdoms. It is about love, heartbreak, sacrifice and the quiet strength of a woman who was so much more than just a queen 🌺📖

This story changed the way I look at the women in the Ramayana. Sita is not shown as someone who only suffered. She is shown as someone who loved with all her heart, broke silently and still stood strong with grace. Women like Urmila, Kaikeyi and Ahalya felt so real, emotional and human. Their pain and their strength touched me deeply 💔✨

It also changed how I thought about the men in the story. The ones we worship and the ones we call villains are shown in a softer, more human light. Ram is not shown as a perfect king, and Ravan is not shown as only a monster. This book does not try to justify them, but it lets us see their flaws, their pain and the weight of the choices they made 👑🔥

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS BOOK:

✅ Strong and powerful voices of women
✅ An emotional and fresh version of the Ramayana
✅ A deeper and more human side of Ram and Ravan
✅ Beautiful writing filled with love, courage and pain

WHAT I DIDN'T FIND:

❌ Nothing. For me, this book felt complete.

This book made me cry and made me think. It reminded me that even in old stories, women had thoughts, feelings and voices. We just never heard them clearly. I will always carry this story in my heart 🌿💚

My Heartfelt Journey with Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s Stories ✨ 🪔

I read The Forest of Enchantments in 2022 and it honestly made me cry. Sita’s story felt so soft and real it did not scream for attention but it still broke me in the quietest way. It felt like she was sitting beside me telling her story with a calm voice and tired eyes. Her love ,her pain ,her silence… it stayed with me long after I closed the book. 🌿💔

In 2025 I read The Palace of Illusions. Draupadi was like fire bold angry and brave. I admired her so much but I still felt a little distant like she was a flame I could feel but not fully touch. 🔥

Between the two, Forest of Enchantments is still the one I love more. Sita’s quiet strength touched me deeper than any battle or loud moment. She didn’t shout yet her story made my heart heavy taught me about love self respect and letting go. 💭

These books didn’t just retell mythology they made me feel the women inside those stories. They made me think about how much women hold inside how strong silence can be and how choosing yourself can sometimes be the bravest thing. ✨

JASMINE DAYS📻✨
BENYAMIN🌸

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

The story is about Sameera Parvin, a young girl who moves from Pakistan to a Middle Eastern city to live with her father and work as a radio jockey. Life seems exciting at first—new place, new job, new dreams. But slowly, protests and fights start in the city. People begin choosing sides, and the peaceful streets turn scary. Sameera gets stuck in the middle of it all, not knowing what is right or wrong. She has to decide whether to stay quiet or speak up.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS BOOK:

✅ Simple but beautiful writing
✅ Real and relatable characters
✅ Strong emotions about family, home and freedom
✅ A story that makes you think about war and humanity

WHAT I DIDN'T FIND:

❌ Fast twists or shocking moments

Even though the book is slow, it feels real. It shows how normal people suffer the most during fights and revolutions. I felt connected to Sameera—her fear, her confusion, and her courage felt honest. It’s not a thriller, but it’s a story that stays in your heart. The only thing I missed was a bit more speed or suspense in the plot.

Still, I’m glad I read it. It made me grateful for peace and the life we sometimes take for granted.
