On this channel, I talk about the nuance in the nerdy, and focus on issues facing the LGBTQ community, transgender specific community, women, nonbinary and autistic folks as well as other social and political issues through and within geek topics, with an eye to the most vulnerable. My goal is try to create a space where we can talk about hard issue but in a way that is constructive, positive, welcoming, and educational, and still never loses sight of the joy and love for each other that brought us together in the first place.

I live in the Los Angeles area right now, and yeah—things feel scary. But let me be clear about something: LA isn’t rioting. We’re showing up for each other. We’re protecting our neighbors from being torn out of their homes by ICE, from being dehumanized and erased by a government trying to pretend some of us don’t belong. This city, as much of this country, is full of people who’ve been made to feel like they don’t count—and we’re standing up to say that we do.
Trump wants to paint LA as full of looters and criminals because facing the truth would mean admitting he’s the one fueling violence. That what’s happening here isn’t chaos—it’s community. It’s a city refusing to be broken, screaming we take care of each other.
So of course he calls us insurrectionists - despite himself having literally staged an attempted insurrection a few years ago. Because if he admitted what we really are—furious and united—he’d have to admit how hollow his power and message actually is and how not only are our actions a threat to him but why we fight.
We see through him. As a trans person, I know what it means to say we’re not what he, or anyone else says, we are. I’ve been living my whole life having people trying to tell me that.
We are so much more. We are one another’s shelter. And we’re not going anywhere.
Oh and F**** ICE.

Hey all! My full retrospective on Star Wars Andor is up now on Patreon—and it’s a big one. This show made me want to go out and punch a Nazi... I mean, I always have that feeling, but Andor made me feel it in my bones as usual. This is one of those essays where I threw everything I had at it—analysis, emotion, way too many references to Sergei Eisenstein and glup shittos. But also we're going to be talking about silly Star Wars stuff, but the essay is going to be a way to talk about many of the issues the show brings up - fascism, genocide, the treatment of LGBTQ people under fascism, settler colonialism... all things that are sadly way... way too releveant right now.
And if you don’t want to wait... it’s already live for patrons and it'll be released everywhere later this week.
If you want to watch it early or support my work, it’s up now here: www.patreon.com/jessiegender

Everyone's favorite revolutionary turned politician Tom Zarak returns in one of Battlestar Galactica's totally least political episodes as we continue with Colonial Day on the Frak this Podcast where a man-child billionaire who pretends to know how to run big tech fails his way into the halls of institutional power and undermines the power of the political establishment... Gotta love totally escapist science fiction right?

It was an absolute honor to serve as Assistant Director on Long Away, the beautiful new sci-fi short from Tilly and Susan Bridges. I'm still working as editor and post-production coordinator, so we're still deep in post-production, but every step of the way, this project has felt like something special. Getting to work on a queer film set—like the ones Dr. Erin Macdonald helps build—reminds me of why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place.
In a time when jobs in the industry are scarcer than ever, and when queer and trans stories often feel like they're fighting just to exist, let alone thrive, being able to help make those stories means the world. It’s not just about creating a film—it’s about creating a space where we can be our fullest, weirdest, most brilliant selves. Where we don’t have to twist ourselves into someone else's idea of who we should be. Every day on set, I saw artists around me push their craft, trust their voices, and create with so much heart. Helping to support that—to clear paths for others to shine—has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.
I can’t wait for you all to see Long Away. And even more than that, I can’t wait to keep building futures together: onscreen and off.
