On this channel we look into video games, often in-depth and with a focus on analysing and trying to understand the game design decisions of a game. On my main channel we discuss Tolkien and his The Lord of the Rings books in detail.

My name is Chris and I like Lord of the Rings and video games. Why Philosopher's Games? The name is a Metal Gear Solid reference - to the secret organisation "The Philosophers" (the la-li-lu-le-lo).

Hi everyone,

my channel here got partnered 🥳

Further I'm slowly making progress towards 1000 subscribers on this channel, which then will unlock more YouTube Partner features - like on the main channel. Thank you for your support and patience.

The YT Partner features I have currently available are: Channel Memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks and Super Stickers.

The last 3 are all Livestream and I think Premiere features. Not sure if I will use them at all yet, because viewers don't get much value out of them anyway in my opinion, but I have them activated for now. I like the concept of the Channel Memberships (similar to Twitch Subscriptions) though, because I can at least give you something back for your generosity (emojis, badges, I prioritise member questions in Q&As (I aim for a 2:1 ratio), depending on the tier you will appear in the credits of videos or streams, etc). It's all the same as on the main channel for now. Though keep in mind I still see this as a way of support for the existing content. So channel memberships are available here as well now.

Thank you,
Chris

PS:

Future Plans (wall fo text, that nobody will read):

After a terrible year on the main channel (where I make Lord of the Rings related content), I decided to put in some energy into a second channel covering my other passion: video games. Would be nice to have 2 channels running well. If one does not perform well, I still have a second one.

Interestingly the main channel actually started as a gaming channel and developed to a Tolkien channel over time after covering Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War in 2017, so this here is back to the roots for me, which I enjoy greatly and I'm very motivated to make content here. Main channel suffers a bit for it though.

The feature I'm hoping to unlock here (with 1000 subs) is of course being able to show ads, which is a controversial topic to be honest. I know how annoying ads are and YT and some YT creators overdo it often, but it's also a "fair" system, that works better than on pretty much any other platform. YT payment on ads is actually not bad in comparison and what creators get through YT Premium (where you see no ads) is even better. And the best part: the content remains "free" (no pay walls), which is important for me. So there won't be much channel member only content here.

My rule of thumb for ads on my main channel is: pre-roll and post-roll and if the video is longer than 30-40 minutes one in the middle, which I think is OK-ish and I would apply it here too. I can't change what ads you see and how long they are (you only have to watch 30 secs though for it to "count"), but a creator can usually change how many ad breaks appear in a video (if the video is not copyright claimed). However that is still a topic of the future, but feel free to give me feedback on that already.

Content-wise I plan on a bit more Cyberpunk content, because I like Cyberpunk. I also like making reviews and first impressions, but they usually take some time to make and I don't get review copies. So I can only start working on those when the game is already out for some time, so my reviews are always "late". On top of that I'm slow 😂

Further I assume the Elden Ring DLC (Shadow of the Erdtree) will release next year and that I will cover for sure. My guess is that we will see it at the Game Awards show. A leak also talks about a release in February 2024. I might revisit Elden Ring again as well (after completing my Level 1 Run I needed a break though) and my Level 1 Malenia no Damage taken challenge still needs to be completed.

Now with Twitch allowing to stream on 2 platforms at once, it is now an option to stream my Twitch Streams also to this channel (only at 1080p though). Let me know if you would be interested in that. I personally prefer Twitch for video game livestreams to be honest. Option 2 would be dedicated streams for this channel independent of what I do on Twitch. Maybe I make a poll here at some point.

On the main channel there will be more Return to Moria content (live streams).

Also what other games would you like to see here? What games are you looking forward to? Let me know. I still need to play Lies of P Blasphemous 2 and Ghostrunner 2 😅 I'm also not sure if people would be interested in occasional Let's Play content here.

However I'm happy to see quite a bit of success here, though this channel is still quite small and gaming on YT is very saturated already. Seems like I do some things right.
