As a 32-year-old American man who has watched our nation’s political landscape shift over the past two decades, I believe that Donald J. Trump’s record, behavior, and leadership style have proven him unfit for the presidency of the United States. My stance is not rooted in blind partisanship, but in a careful consideration of the principles I believe are essential to a healthy democracy—truth, accountability, respect for institutions, and the prioritization of the public good over personal gain.

1. A consistent disregard for truth
One of the cornerstones of leadership is honesty. Over his political career, Trump has demonstrated a persistent pattern of making false or misleading statements, many of which were factually disproven by independent sources. The sheer volume of these misstatements—often repeated even after being debunked—has eroded public trust in government and normalized dishonesty in public discourse. A functioning democracy relies on an informed citizenry, and when the highest office in the land treats truth as optional, it damages the foundation upon which our political system rests.

2. Undermining democratic institutions
I have a deep respect for America’s democratic traditions, and I am disturbed by Trump’s repeated attacks on the legitimacy of our electoral process. His refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election, despite a lack of credible evidence of widespread fraud, represents one of the most dangerous precedents in modern U.S. history. These unfounded claims led to millions of Americans doubting the integrity of our elections and played a role in the events of January 6th, 2021, when the U.S. Capitol was violently attacked. Leaders must be willing to put the stability of the nation above their personal political fortunes; Trump failed that test.

3. Self-interest over public service
The presidency is a public trust, not a personal business venture. Yet, Trump repeatedly blurred the lines between the two. From promoting his private properties while in office to using his influence to reward loyalists and punish critics, he treated the machinery of government as a tool for personal benefit. This undermines the ideal that public office should serve all citizens, not the private ambitions of one individual.

4. Reckless and inconsistent foreign policy
As an American who believes in the importance of strong global leadership, I was alarmed by Trump’s erratic approach to international relations. His open admiration for authoritarian leaders and frequent hostility toward long-standing democratic allies disrupted the stability of global alliances. While challenging outdated norms can sometimes be necessary, Trump’s tendency toward impulsive decision-making and public theatrics often created instability without yielding lasting benefits for the United States.

5. Deepening divisions instead of fostering unity
The role of a president is not only to govern but to lead with words and tone. Trump repeatedly used inflammatory rhetoric that targeted opponents, the press, and entire groups of Americans. This type of language does not merely “tell it like it is”—it stokes division, fuels resentment, and makes productive dialogue harder to achieve.

Conclusion
As a 32-year-old male who has lived through multiple administrations and witnessed both political parties succeed and fail, I believe Donald J. Trump’s leadership represents a step backward for American democracy. This is not about disagreeing with a conservative platform—I can respect ideological differences. It is about holding leaders to a standard of truthfulness, integrity, and a commitment to the common good. In my view, Trump has consistently fallen short of that standard, and the cost to our national unity and democratic health has been far too high to risk another term under his leadership.
