Gerald Thomas Music & Theater

I'm a playwright, theater and opera director but this channel is mostly dedicated to my playing the bass and the occasional keyboard instrument. THEATER (of course !!!) is what I do so, sometimes I do publish theater related material - all of it authored by myself and my theatrical company, the Dry Opera Company or Companhia de Opera Seca.

R.I.P. ROBERT WILSON (1941- 2025)
I am heartbroken by the news of your passing. I happen to be in São Paulo where I arrived only a week or so ago and where Ruth Escobar – many decades ago - gave you the opportunity to experiment your very early work. That was during a bizarre and bitter military dictatorship which renamed your “Letter to Joseph Stalin” and turned it into a candid “Letter to Dave Clark”. You became the pioneer of non verbal theater and we all cheered on as you became an icon. But icons have to be hated as well and you got your fare share. I always defended you – tooth and nail. I remember the moment (whilst sitting at Pheebe’s – around the corner from La MaMa, on the Bowery
When you sent a post card to a certain critic which read “I hope you’ll die soon”.
No wonder all the newspaper headlines right now have your picture on their front pages and so does every drama site or anything to do with theater is posting a homage to you !!! Tears are rolling across the board in reference to your ART…..as if your TRIUMPH were their own. You ARE THE GREATEST REVOLUTIONARY THE THEATER HAS EVER SEEN. Why? Because you spoke through images and feelings, sounds, music and tremors and hardly any words. You took your cue from Einstein himself and left your own era behind by being light years ahead. You are my hero. Always will be. And heroes NEVER DIE! (You always did look a little Clark Kent. Hide no more Bob ! Fly away my hero! LOVE Gerald Thomas
