I know that the 9th of August is celebrated as BakuDeku day and it's based on some kind of wordplay in Japanese, so I asked ChatGPT to explain it and here's what I got:

"Bakudeku Day (8/9) is a fan-created celebration for the Bakugo Katsuki × Midoriya Izuku ship from My Hero Academia.

The reason August 9th (8/9) is used comes from Japanese wordplay called goroawase (語呂合わせ), where numbers are read in ways that sound like words or names.

Here’s the breakdown:

8 can be read as "ba" because the Japanese pronunciation of the number 8 is hachi, which can be shortened to ha, and in wordplay, ha can become ba (just a voiced sound change).

9 can be read as "ku", coming from kyuu (9) or ku.

So:
8/9 → ba-ku → Baku (short for Bakugou)

The “deku” part doesn’t come from the numbers — it’s just understood that if we say “Baku” in fandom shipping terms, it’s paired with “Deku” (Midoriya’s nickname).

Just like Bakudeku Day (8/9) celebrates the ship with Bakugou’s name first, Dekubaku Day flips it and puts Midoriya (Deku) first — and it’s celebrated on 4/19.

Here’s the goroawase (Japanese number-wordplay) for 4/19:

4 can be read as "de" — the number 4 is shi or yon, but in wordplay it can also be read as de from the word deru (to come out), or just by using creative phonetic bending common in fandom dates.

1 can be read as "i" — from ichi.

9 is "ku" — from kyuu or ku.

So:
4/19 → de-i-ku → Deku (short for Midoriya).

Then, just like with Bakudeku Day, the second half of the ship name isn’t from the numbers — it’s implied."

Japanese fandoms are something else. This is still extremely confusing to me 🤯 But if they say it's a BakuDeku day, it means it's a BakuDeku day! 😆🎉🙌

Nabu Island is not a real place. It's a fictional location created specifically for "My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising" movie. The island is an isolated and peaceful small island with a population of about 1,000 that lives in a tightly-knit community.
Like a few other My Hero Academia locations, Nabu Island's name comes from planet Naboo from Star Wars universe. Horikoshi is a big fan of Star Wars and has incorporated numerous references to the Star Wars franchise into My Hero.

In 2022, Kacchan was killed by Shigaraki in the manga right before Deku's birthday. Dudebros started celebrating his death and making fun of BakuDeku shippers. It was an extremely hostile time for all of us. We were clinging to hope and trying to fight the hatred in the fandom at the same time. Twitter became a major battlefield. Even worse than before.

In 2023, Bakugou was still dead. Horikoshi kept edging us for a whole YEAR at this point. We kept checking the manga for updates each week, hoping for Kacchan to come back, but to no avail. So Deku's birthday was still really sad for BakuDeku shippers in the fandom. The sentiment was "anime-only viewers will never understand what we had to go through".

In 2024, Horikoshi announced that he'll be ending the manga in just a few chapters. Ship wars became unbearable, cause dudebros were certain IzuOcha is gonna become canon and then they will "own" BakuDeku shippers.

But now, in 2025, finally, we can celebrate Deku's birthday in peace! The war is over 😁

I've also included a few screenshots of what was happening in the fandom. The dudebros even tagged Horikoshi asking to make IzuOcha canon. At the same time, they kept spreading rumours that it was BakuDeku shippers who were sending death threats to the author and threatening, bullying, forcing him to make BakuDeku canon. It was all a projection, cause they were the ones who were spreading hate, homophobia and demanding that Deku should end up with Uraraka.

Very often, they didn't even spell her name right, cause they didn't care about the ship itself. They didn't care about Ochako. All they cared about was that they could say "Deku was confirmed straight" without realizing that even if Izuku ends up with Uraraka, that wouldn't make him straight. Bisexuals exist, and many headcanon Deku as such.

I just wanna add that it's definitely NOT ALL IZUOCHA SHIPPERS! Those who actually care about Deku and Ochako and aren't homophobic never acted this way! Shipping is supposed to be fun and many ships can co-exist peacefully. Fandoms are all about creativity and expression, not hatred and forced limitations.
