My name is Mark and I am a graphic designer and photographer by trade, but one of my favorite hobbies is getting out into my shop and building or fixing things. I decided to start this channel because I have often gone online looking for ways to build something, only to come up empty and deciding to figure it out on my own. I am hoping that through my trial and error I can provide others with ideas or inspiration to create their own custom projects.
I am a very busy person and I like it that way. You’ll never find me just sitting around. If I’m not tinkering on things around my house then I am probably out doing something that I find exciting somewhere in the wilds of Wyoming.

Hey Guys! In my latest video - https://youtu.be/2IDGv8ghocU - you may have noticed I mentioned "real-time" glue ups - well they were each maybe 20-minutes long, so for the scope of that full-project video it made more sense to speed them up. Who among you would find it beneficial if I published those videos in full? I pretty much talk to the camera the entire time and explain why I'm doing things the way I am doing them during a glue up.

I just posted my first short! I'm an old man at heart and this technology stuff confuses me. Also, it looks like the last time I made a post here was 4 years ago... That's not very consistent!

Who's ready for a massive coincidence? Apparently 3 years ago TODAY I posted my first video to YouTube. It as a very simple project of making some push blocks with PVC handles.
Well TODAY, I just launched my online store with my very first set of plans. I had no idea I was celebrating an anniversary!
For anyone who has already seen my exploding outhouse video, I just posted the complete step-by-step plans on how to make them yourself. And don't worry if you don't have a CNC machine, the instructions tel you how to do it the old fashioned way.
Get the plans and support my channel!

Good news everyone! I just got to use a Professor Farnsworth quote! But that’s not the point. My buddies Drew Fisher, Bruce A. Ulrich and I started a new podcast last week. If you need some silly banter to fill your ears with, look up We Built A Thing on iTunes, Google Play or SoundCloud. There are 2 episodes available now with more on the way.

Hey Guys! I left civilization last Friday when I was only 10 subs shy of 50,000. My family and I met up with a bunch of our friends and spent the weekend deep in the mountains at an archery shoot. We had a blast camping, hiking and shooting at targets spread across a mountain all weekend.
When I get back into cell service late last night I saw that Gunflint Designs had hit, and kept right on going past our 50,000 subscriber milestone. Thank you all so much for your support in helping reach this goal! Tonight after work I will sit down and do the drawing for the giveaway winners. So check back for that soon!

Hey Guys! In case you haven't seen it in my shop tour video yet, I just got my hands on a new X-Carve CNC machine. I'm just starting to work with Inventables and I'm really excited to see what we can build together. The timing of this is really cool too, because they just announced a new challenge for the month of June.
Calling it the "Easel Power Hour," the idea is to use their free web-based software to to make the coolest project you can, that can be carved out in under 60 minutes. You don't have to have a CNC machine to participate, just design your project and let Easel simulate it for you. 11 Participants will get a $100 gift certificate, and one overall winner will win their own X-Carve ($1,500)!
If you enter through this link and choose my name from the dropdown when you sign up, then I get to judge your project!

Hey guys, I've been working hard to get a video out this week, but it's just not going to happen. Between finishing the upstairs, moving the family back into their bedrooms and buying and setting up a new table saw, I just got too far behind.
Here's the good news - the house stuff is almost done, maybe another night or two and I'll finally be free. The next two videos will be chronicling the whole process - and trust me, the before and after pictures will be worth the wait! It doesn't even feel like the same house anymore. After those videos I will finally be back out in the shop and I am dying to complete some kind of a project. I don't know what it will be yet, but I just need a quick win!
Thanks for sticking by me through this process, there will be good things coming soon, including a giveaway! So watch out for that!

Things have been a little crazy around the house for the last few weeks. We got bumped up the waiting list to get our hardwood floors patched and refinished, so I had to drop everything and move completely out of the main floor of our house in a hurry. Most of our stuff is out in the garage now, and my family of 4 is living in our small basement. The boys love it - they think its a camping trip!
The floors are done now and we are just about able to move back in, but I want to install the new doors and trim before we clutter it back up with our stuff. There's lots of painting to do first, and obviously I'm filming everything - so its slow going.
I've all but given up editing videos for the moment so I can power through this stuff and get the family settled back in again. It might be another week or two before I get back on schedule, but I have lots of cool stuff coming up so stay tuned!
At least with this big house project I'm getting lots of footage and project videos in the bag, so I shouldn't run out again for quite a while!
