WHY RAVAN CREATED SHIV STOTRA 🙏🏽🕉️

The entire stotram was composed by the ten-headed Ravana after his pride was humbled by Lord Shiva. 🙏🏽🕉️🌺

The story recounts that after defeating his half-brother, Kubera, and plundering his city, Ravana returned to his kingdom of Lanka. 👑😈🔥

Returning on the Pushpak Vimana, which he had acquired, Ravana encountered a mysterious mountain he was unable to fly over. 🧐🤔✈️ Puzzled, Ravana made repeated attempts but was unsuccessful. 🤨🤔🙅🏾‍♂️ He then observed a bull-like figure and, upon approaching, learned it was Nandi, and the mountain was the sacred Kailash, abode of the benevolent Lord Shiva. 🙏🏽🕉️🏔️

Following his recent victory, Ravana became preoccupied with his power and believed himself to be unconquerable. 💪🏽🔥👑 He proceeded to show disrespect towards Nandi and his master, Shiva. 😡😠😤 Offended by this arrogance, Nandi prophesied that Ravana's defeat would come at the hands of monkeys. 🐒🙊🙉 Undeterred, Ravana continued and began lifting an entire mountain. ⛰️🏔️🗻 All of this occurred while the Lord was meditating; the moment the mountain began to shake, Shiva emerged from his trance. 🧘🏾‍♂️💥🕉️

As the Omniscient One, Shiva understood the cause of the disturbance and immediately decided to subdue Ravana's arrogance. 🙏🏽🕉️🔱 Using His smallest toe, Shiva pressed into the mountain, and the entire Kailash fell on the poor king who foolishly tried to lift it. 💪🏽⛰️👣

Ravana cried out in pain, his pride humbled. 🙏🏽🕉️😌 In his suffering, he plucked the strings of his own veins like a Veena and sang the Shiva Tandava Stotram in praise of Nataraja. 🎶🎵🌺 The Lord, easily appeased, descended and bestowed his blessing upon Ravana. 🙌🏾😇🌟

Dashanana received his name, Ravana, meaning "the one who cried," from this incident. 🥹🙏🏾 Shiva, in recognition of Ravana's devotion, also bestowed upon him a special weapon, the Chandrahaas, a sickle. ⚔️🌟

Deeply offended by the disrespect shown to her husband, Sati declared that a life where he was dishonoured was not worth living and subsequently immolated herself in a sacred fire. 🔥🙏🏽💔

Shiva’s Wrath: The Destruction of Daksha’s Yagna 💥🔥🕉️

Upon learning of Sati's demise, Shiva's sorrow transformed into intense anger. 🔥😠💥 Consumed by rage, he executed the Tandava, a dance of destruction, and manifested Veerbhadra, a formidable warrior who annihilated Daksha's Yagna and decapitated him. 💥⚔️😈 Witnessing the widespread destruction, the deities implored Shiva to regain his composure. 🙏🏽🕉️😌 In an act of clemency, Shiva resurrected Daksha, replacing his severed head with that of a goat. 🐐😇🙏🏽
